No, but seriously, I'm a big Nirvana fan. MTV per se never really factored into it, though I think the Fame did - so did disappointing the DIY/Punk Seattle grunge scene ethos which frowned on success. He talks about it in the interviews of Nirvana - Live! Tonight! Sold Out!
One of the big things was that he hated performing live. He wasn't very good at it either, if you watched any of their shows. Performance anxiety, I suppose. He talks about it in his suicide note. Of course, it's addressed to his imaginary friend so take it fwiw. I'm guessing he was pretty high. His suicide letter is basically a textbook depression letter. He never mentions MTV. He mostly talks about things like losing interest in things he once found fun, disappointing others, etc.
I kind of doubt he'd approve of GH given his hatred of public performance and his general hatred of GnR (fights, much?) hair metal and the concept of the "rock star" itself, but who knows, maybe if he took some anti-depressants he'd have been fine with it. I don't find it particularly distasteful. I find it most weird that he's included in RS because he couldn't play guitar very well. Great songwriter, terrible guitarist.
edit: LOL, I just watched shot through the heart video. Yeah, no way in hell he'd approve this. I think he's a classic rock figure, so he's fair game, but I could see outrage. Blame Courtney.

Bugger that, the top thing in that video is the skeleton drummer with spikes in his skull, now THAT'S metal! I'd like to meet his necromancer, I have an idea that requires a few hundred thousand animated skeletons...
I'll be the first to admit that I'm out of touch with popular culture (I think its one of my better features) but if someone showed me that video last week I'd have described the singer as "generic scummy rock star #327"

Kinda in a way what goes around comes around, since dave grohl still has his foo fighters thing going , while she is now a 45+ something has-been who wears black shades when/if occasionally a photgrapher takes a picture of her buying shoes in a hollywood store. :D

I'm sure the fact I think these games are stupid to begin with plays a part in that, but damn... just, how can someone not be bothered by a polygonal Curt Cobain singing Bon Jovi songs next to a marketing directed Microsoft Avatar and a polygonal piece of T&A?

As an example, lets pretend that the rock band & guitar hero games have every song. When the beatles rock band comes out, you can have john lennon singing Cutting Crew's "Died in your arms tonight". Is this better or worse than cobain? What about Tupac being able to do ozzy osbourne's "Shot in the dark"? Or Mama Cass doing a cover of Tori Amos' "That's What I Like Mick (The Sandwich Song)"? (yes its not how she died but its the popular rumour). Janis Joplin singing ozzy's "Suicide solution"?

Agree somewhat. The guy's a classic rock figure. It's a stupid game. *shrugs* I can definitely see why someone would be upset if it's their favorite rock figure and thinks it's too soon (it has been nearly 15 years, though), but all I have to say is:
a) it's a fairly silly game, get over it. If you don't like it, don't buy it. I probably won't. Not so much because of KC, but because everyone of these games has been exactly the same since GH3.
b) It's Courtney Love. I find it shocking how tasteful licensing has been. I'm surprised she hasn't put Cobain's likeness on a line of commemorative spoons and shotguns by now. Seriously, blame her. She could've said no quite easily.

While I dislike the Beatles immensely, the prospect of seeing John Lennon sing Rebel Girl has win all over it.
Also, keep in mind when watching that video that is is 100% the players choice to have Kurt Cobain as the singer. He is not randomly chosen as far as I know. I bought the game yesterday, but I only played a little while just so I could do Du Hast, Kryptonite, and Ring of Fire.

I dont think it matters much if she says no anymore. Remember some years back, when a
box collection of unreleased tracks from her deceased husband's band, you know 'em, was about to be released, she tried by all means to stop it. Then, the other 2 former band members, Dave Grohl and Chris Novoselic, basically told courtney to go f*** herself, and the release came out as planned. It's like she cant hold anything related to kurt cobain hostage anymore.
Seriously, what's the fuzz about singlying out kurt cobain? It's just another VERY big recognizable figure content for Activision to add to their game franchise, that's all to them. Maybe it's because it's your favorite musician? It's business. Shirley Manson from Garbage is there too, no fuzz about her? Is it because it's a dead musician? Jimi Hendrix is there too, no one sticks up for Jimi?
btw, I find hilarious her comments of the GH trailer for Garbage. I find hilarious how she *HAS* to say something *important* about "rock music not getting enough mediums to reach big audiences these days, and how guitar hero is providing this outlet for younger generations". Blah blah, what a load of crap, for a paid advertisement. It's just a somewhat stupid, but fun game. Why not just take the money Activision paid you to license your face and music and just STFU.

I'd licence a lot more than just her face...
