I know they stated in January on their greenlight page that they'd give Steam keys, but it looks like they've changed their mind.

There are a few (although very rare) english dubs that are better than the original Japanese voice acting, but I can see how some people would always prefer the Japanese VA.

Only if you play the whole game in a language you can't understand anything of;-)

I guess the reason why so many are interested in japanese games are that they are not only interested in a different gameplay but also want to experience a complete different culture. Voices can be very helpful for that, especially since in videogames it's easier to follow subtitles then in movies and so it's easier to follow the story.

I always thought that when the game is set in japan, it's very awkward when the American voice actors try to pronounce names.

The Japanese also tend to have better voice actors.

Nah ive seen enough anime to know many english voiceovers are pretty poor and not close to what the real story is meant to be about.Personally i prefer japanese voice overs + subtitles. Thats just me :)

Anime? Sure, original VO is a preferred choice. Games? Not so much. Anyway, it all depends on how much effort is put into localizing the piece.

I too prefer the original Japanese in most cases. Not just because the pronunciation is better, but the inflection is as well. Certain ways of laughing, shouting, even whispering, are more evocative in the original. Hard to explain, but I know it when I hear it. And some games where the speech isn't as critical are just more immersive in their native language (like the Otogi games).

Anyway, picked up the bundle, got everything but Yatagarasu. Looks nice but not my cuppa.

Unfortunately, I'm not huge on visual novel games, so I wound up getting everything in the bundle except for Yousei and Cafe 0 (and Croixleur, but I got that from Indie Royale's Debut Bundle 2).

As for voice overs, I usually go for the Japanese ones if there, but some games (like the "Tales of..." series) have really enjoyable English VO and I'm absolutely fine with them. Games like Samurai/Dynasty/Orochi Warriors, however, are just missing something with English voice acting. Also, for anime I almost always prefer the original language dub with English subs. I see it like this, I want to enjoy the experience in the purest form I can, but since I can't read Japanese/Chinese/etc I want the original voices with a language I can read as subtitles. Same thing can be applied to movies (like Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon, Hero, Iron Monkey, etc), Original voices with English subs.

Call it being a hipster or prejudiced, I like my works to be as original as can be vocally, and I see nothing wrong with that. Yes, English voice actors can be great, but usually they are lackluster if the content is originally in a different language.

Could someone explain the Yatagarasu situation for one that hasn't been following the campaign. Is the Yatagarasu on Indiegogo an expansion, a sequel...? Is the Groupees version an Alpha/Beta/Demo?
