I was wondering how many of you Goggers out there still own and collect boxed games? I have attached a pic of my small but growing collection, would be great to see some other pics of your collections or rare stuff. I still have a Win98 machine in perfect working order so that I can play and install these games with ease. As much as I like GOG, I still prefer to get these boxed versions if I can :-)

That is the monkey island I never got to play. =/
I used to keep the boxes, but at some point I ran out of room and ended up getting rid of all of them. I think the only one I have at the moment is the one that Full Throttle came in. IIRC that was that lame Aliens adventure game.

You gotta try play Curse of Monkey Island, was the best of the series for me, I loved the graphic style they used.

I also got rid of some of mine 10 years ago and then I started collecting them again, go figure. I guess for me the digital download format started becoming boring and I wanted to find the originals with manuals flyers etc, suppose it's the collector in me. Now I have this kinda time capsule, it's pretty cool sorta opening the box popping the cd into a win98 box, brings back a lot of good memories.

I got rid of mine as well. I used to keep them all, but when I moved it was just too much hassle. I have the disks and manuals still, but I threw out the boxes. Most of them were from before I took good care of my collectibles, so they were in pretty poor shape anyway.

It's cool to have them, but I don't really have much space and I got rid of them before I knew that there was a market for boxes and packaging.

Yeah, some of them fetch quite a bit these days, I saw Grim Fandango (sealed copy) on E-bay the other day for $149.00, although there is quite a bit you can still get for reasonable prices.
I Still Collect and trade these Big Boxed Games on ebay.

What's up mate! It's me, yezdigerd :D. You know, your games were in one of the last few shipments to arrive. After that insane shopping spree I went on in May/June, I could barely find anymore space to stash the stuff. Hope all's well with you, my friend :)

(there's actually more, just that I haven't taken pictures of them because they're in separate places. I had to stuff some into my wardrobe, and others into my brother's wardrobe)

I don't have many, as up until last year I've been a console guy, but I do have a couple.

Baldurs Gate 2, Sonic R, and Warcraft Chest are sadly all I own. I also have Diablo 2, but it's in a big jewel case and not a box.

Yeah it's a sort of a geek therapy. Those aren't the best - I have Jagged Alliance 2, a portion of the Ultima series, I-War, HELL and some other very rare classics in the wardrobe.
When the world ends, I am taking all of them into my vault with me :O

I am actually still looking for a boxed Grim Fandango which sadly I had and can't remember what happened to it. It seems to have become a bit of a collectors item though and is going for prices higher than what I am willing to pay. I actually have 2 original copies n standard DVD cases, but would like a boxed version.
I bought the Ultima Collection back in 1998 (new in large box) from CompUSA for $30. I've kept it in my closet all these years in mint condition. Its for sale for the right price if anyone wants it.

What are you willing to pay for it? I'll let you know if I come across a copy on eBay. See my "Online shopping junkies" thread, and you'll know how much time I spend on eBay. Screw window shopping. Buying apparel and stuff online is the way to go =D

Consider lurking around eBay every now and then. I actually won an auction for Full Throttle for $8.50. It was a totally non-serious bid, but I thought "hah even if I win it at that price, it's a steal." To my complete surprise, I did win it!

A few months ago I also saw someone buying Freespace 2 Limited Edition (one out of only 10000 copies in the whole world) selling at a very cheap price of $27. Since then other copies have sold for $30-$40, but none as cheap as $27.

Lurk more, you never know when you'll get lucky ;)

Yeah this. There's just something really intriguing about collecting them big boxes, and storing them. Collector's syndrome I guess. Some people like stamps, some like comics. For people like you and I, it's games, especially those that come in the big boxes. I nearly lost a few in my last house move (The Longest Journey and Operation Flashpoint got a bit dented), and it made me quite annoyed.

Btw, check this out if you need to get something repaired:

The guy charges extortionist prices though.
