Pontypool is absolutely fantastic, one of the best movies (let alone horror movies) of the last 30 years. It is so different from the book, but that just increases the value of reading the book AND seeing the movie. Also it has Georgina Reilly (Yowzah! She's one hot tamale, and a great actress). I love it's unconventional story, great atmosphere and fantastic characters.

For a B Movie the original is very good and a real classic movie.
The remake is good and closer to the short story of Campbell Jr. 'Who Goes There' (you should read it) but its more into special effects. No i like the old one more...and I've seen it when i was about 7 years old ....greater impact :p

Though as a film, I prefer Carpenters '83 version. The '51 was just a bit too blatantly political for me to enjoy...

If you mean the post credits scene, due to what was said over the ending credits with the virus still spreading I assume it is possible it means that it got them and that was a metaphor for their insanity. Either that or a purposeful "what the fuck" moment just to mess with people. I prefer to assume the latter and that the movie ended with them being saved, but the world being doomed.

Thanks, I'll check it out tomorrow. I'm way to tired to even begin contemplating that movie right now which I mean as a huge compliment. How many horror films make you think that much not to mention about what it makes you think about? Shit, you'll go mad just trying to get your head around it. :D

No one mentioned having watched the french film Martyrs Seriously, watch it, it's something else and I don't say it lightly.

I'd also recommend Martyrs. Some other flicks I'd recommend.

1) The seasoning house (It is more of a revenge flick but I thought it was pretty darn good - the protagonist is a deaf and mute girl - hard to watch in places)
2) A tale of two sisters (This you have gotta watch)
3) Dead Silence ( Ghost story)
4) The Midnight Meat train (One of the better clive barker on screen adaptations)
5) Cabin Fever 3 (If you haven't seen earlier iterations then you might want to check those out too)

Some classics:

1)Dellamore Dellamorte (A personal favourite)
2)Tombs of the blind dead (love this one)

Horror comedies.
1)Tucker and Dale vs evil (I love this one)
2) Trollhunter (Bloody Hillarious)

House Hunting (2012) was nice. I am too lazy to list out other ones right now, but I'll add to this later.

Just saw Uzumaki. That ending. Straight 'NOPE' material.

I second this. Much better than the American remake Quarantine.

I recommend the (1st) remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) and the prequel (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006) ).

In addition, I recommend :
- Wolf Creek (HIGHLY)
- Dead Snow
- The Crazies
- Masters of Horror series (Especially the episode HPL's "Dreams in the Witchhouse")
- Dagon
- Rose Red / The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer

I could recommend a lot more if I broke from the timeframe you specified (post-2000). If I were you, I'd avoid any trendy horror movies like Mama, Cabin in the Woods, or Parastupid Activity if you want real horror.
