Hostile Waters disappeared from the catalogue without a word of warning a few days ago. For us, the customers, this is worrying behaviour, as I'm sure you will understand. Could we get a blue clarification of the situation? I know people complain left, right and centre (myself included), but this is actually seriously threatening your reputation, GOG.

So, this is just like ObsCure. That also appeared without any official statement.
I don't really feel the loss of either game, but it is indeed worrying, as one of the GOG team said after the TOCA+Colin McRae ruckus that there were no more titles prone to disappearing for licensing reasons in the catalogue.

Unfortunately, we probably won't get any official response anytime soon, being near to Christmas (because they've proably started their vacations already) and all, but may my prediction turn out to be not true.

Oh crap. This was a game I was interested in buying (I own the boxed version but it doesn't run on my system). Just kind of forgot about it.

I hope it will reappear. Also, it would definitely be appreciated with some kind of explanation.

Oh, c'mon, I bought this game when I joined gog (it was in a promo), so don't tell me that you couldn't buy it earlier if you would like to :)
I can still download it so it's ok for me.

Let me assuage your ill-omened feeling. Interplay is involved in a kerfluffle over the rights, so they have asked every digital distributor--which includes GOG--to delist the game. Once things have settled down, we'll look into offering Hostile Waters for sale again.

Everyone who's purchased Hostile Waters will still have it on his or her shelf and will continue to be able to download it as desired. We're sorry if this has ruined your plans for a Hostile Waters-themed LAN holiday party or whatnot, but we don't know yet whether the title will be removed from GOG or not in the end, so we haven't made a formal announcement.

We'll keep you updated as we know more.

Oh it's an Interplay game. Rage seem to be listed as self publishing it elsewhere so I guess that's where the legal issues have arisen from. Okay, fair enough then.

All right, thanks for the answer. I'd say an announcement just on the forums (or the HW forum) would be better than puzzling silence, if you didn't want to bring it up on the main page, but that's just my two cents.

Would it be possible to get an announcement before you take off a game from GOG catalogue? How can we know if there's any threat to our buying plans. GOG has so many titles that there's a chance that someone plan to buy a game next month and then *bang* it's not there.

Just one day before taking it of the list would be enough.

Well, I can understand immediately taking down the game if it's a legal/license battle.
Waiting a day might tick them off, but posting a message when taking it down (or just after) would be very nice.

I understand that too, but I was hoping they'll go opposite direction and will bring us back some games they had to remove.

I'm sorry, but that is silly. You should have learned by now that quietly removing games from the catalog for whatever reason, without saying a word about it, is a bad idea. I can understand if you are for some reason legally obliged to say nothing about a specific situation, but since you're saying this now, such is obviously not the case. You don't have to know what the eventual outcome of a situation will be, in order to make your customers aware of the situation and the background for it.

You have by now developed something of a reputation for taking away options from your customers without notifying them in any way. At times, it has seemed like you were hoping noone would notice. At other times it has appeared that you just didn't care. One of the most important things you can do regarding your customers is to communicate with them. You were very good at this in the beginning, but somewhere along the way, it seems to have ceased being a priority. I wish you would make it one again.

Remember when Operation flashpoint was intially on gog.com then dissapeared?

The game is still not in the catalogue and yet still has a subforum for it
