I think GoG shouldnt worry about this too much

The people who wanted to pirate these games that are on here already done so a long time ago and will continue to do so in the future

I could EASILY pirate all of the games here as well and not pay a cent but I want to support the hard working people that bring these games to us and the Good people behind them

Pirates will always be pirates - they do not care about anything

It's better if you just focus on your existing customers and do everything you can to keep them happy

just my 2 cents

AMEN.
Piracy is inevitable. I wish people concentrated more on the sales they do make rather than the sales they never will. Being based in piracy-saturated Poland, GOG have a much healthier outlook on the matter. That's something I don't see changing.

On the bight side, most GOGs are too old as far as pirates are concerned. They won't stay seeded for very long because of this. The best approach is always to target those that upload the torrents in the first place. That's the best way of discouraging piracy.
Like Roman5 already said, it shouldn't matter because the games themselves have been available to pirates, in some cases over a decade anyway.

The difference is that now they can also be bought on GOG for the benefit of all.
Piracy is inevitable even if GoG were to switch to a model that included DRM. Personally, I wouldn't want that, although, it would be nice if GoG provided demos for the games. Since most of the games already have demos, it would be nice if you could download them through GoG before you purchase.

Although, that would take a bit of extra work, and with the price of games here being what it is, it's probably not worth the effort.

What does bother me though, is when people find those torrents, use them, then post about how they pulled one over on GoG. That bothers me. Pirates are going to pirate, but if you do so, at least have the class to not post it on the board. Or I suppose by the game and post about deleting the pirated copy.
I'm not too worried about this either. I think the vast majority of the audience for these old games no one nowadays have even heard of, will want to support this site by getting them here. I definately wouldn't want gog to throw out the no drm policy.

People who are honest will pay for their stuff, the other people aren't worthy of mentioning
It is a lot easier to pirate something when it is readily available than when it is not. I don't believe there is an easily drawn line between the pirates and the honest people. As gog games work their way more and more into piracy circles, they will be pirated more. It's annoying.

Sure they are. We need to know our viable targets once we meet at the gun club.
Unfortunately I expected something like this after the stunt. With the stunt GOG lost something of his underdog and white image, which let's people care and think twice to put stuff on the net. On the other hand with more new members and new titles the probabitlty was also getting higher.

I beleive most of the pirates are kids&teenagers. They: 1) have lots of time to play 2) don't have job and money to buy all games they want (no one have that amount :-). Truly - do you imagine 13 years old boys&girls playing pirated Realms of Arkania or BAK ? They wouldn't have patience to wait for another turn in combat :-P GOG.com is for old-ones and they mostly can afford $6 to spend. I don't think piracy here is a serious threat to gog business.
Its a sad fact of life people will pirate anything games, films, music regardless.

Although at times it is funny when a games company releases a game with a so called great unbreakable DRM.

Not that i agree with piracy as a principle but to see these guys DRM ripped apart within minutes makes me laugh and think of the idiots thinking of spending millions on DRM for nothing.

I dont like seeing gog games on torrents but due to human nature dont think we can stop people from putting them uup.
Yeah, don't take it too personally. You can find Counter Strike on warez sites too ;)

Actually the gog games are avaliable from pirate trackers from a long time ago already. They usually even have gog specific search options. When I first saw it, I sent an email to gog warning them about the trackers. I never got an answer.

But, like many here already said, it isn't a matter of lamenting never-meant-to-be sales, but a matter of making people feel good about buying legit copies and doing so with pleasure, sometimes just to show support instead of genuine interest in the product.

And this is a point that most companies miss unfortunately.

Oh, and about that tracker that I used to go to, I lost all respect and interest in them. It's like an abandonware site that instead of pointing people to gog where gog can help, just put up gog's own version of the game for grab. Stupid and shameful.

(Yes, it was an old games tracker)
