A better thought to get GOG out there might be rewarding the community for viral marketing advertisement.
For example, a points system. You gain a small number of points for someone you refer registering an account, and a decent number of points the first time they buy a game.
And every X points, you can earn one free GOG title.
If they wanted to be awesome to people they'd also award a rather low amount of points fur purchasing games. Thus making it a 'loyal customer awards' program.
(Say 1 point for a membership, 5 points for buying a game, 10 points for the first time someone you refer buys a game. 100 points for a free game.)
Or if they didn't want to go free game, even just a 25% off coupon or somethin',

But my friends couldn't care less about old games...
They could also try bundling GOG codes with Netbooks. Since Netbooks can't exactly run Fallout 3, why not bundle in a free code for Fallout 1 or 2?

stonebro: Also, GoG would have to pay the respective publisher / rights holder their share of each copy that is given away for free.

I suspect that the hardware manufacturer pays for bundled games, not the publisher or distributor. After all, the game is being included to show off the hardware, not to promote other games by that publisher or distributor.

Then you need new friends. ;)

Haha, I kind of dig being the go to guy in terms of video games and films.
They should give out free copies of Beneath a Steel Sky with a purchase of an internet router!
O wait....

Yeah, my friends are the same, sort of, they care about old games, just not old PC games.
We had some cool ideas for cross promos with hardware manufacturers. Let say more suitable for gog games than latest graphic cards:) The only thing is that we have limited workforce to make it happen. So it will eventually happen but later (maybe second half of this year, or next year).

Yeah, I had a semi-GOG approved idea! :o)
EDIT: Shouldn't I get like 100 Rep Points for a nearly good idea! :oP

great. now instead of wasting all my money on cheap games, i'll be spending it even faster on expensive hardware that comes with the games.

I look better than both of you....
I will be less greedy than the rest and take 99 rep points, which I should get because I am less greedy. :)
