It sold less than its predecessors (Activision itself admitted it), but it still sold a lot. To be very honest i enjoyed Black Ops 2. Even the campaign was interesting. But yeah, Ghosts was horrible.

I'm still waiting for a Humble COD Bundle. Then I may end up actually owning one. ^^

Since MW2 I've basically been two games behind and just ended up buying it used for the PS3 for €10-15. Actually, that's not quite true - I picked up Black Ops 2 for the Wii U for €20 (contrary to popular belief, it does run at 1080p and a sturdy 60 FPS). I don't play them for multiplayer - I just have a laugh with the campaign, which admittedly does tend to be fun.
The result of which being that Activision hasn't seen any money from me for CoD since World at War on the PC. In fact, I think I only paid €10 for CoD 1 and 2 as well, but they were new. The only ones I paid full price for were Modern Warfare and World at War (WaW, funnily enough, I enjoyed). I skipped on MW2 for the PC due to the Steam straitjacket.
As far as Advanced Warfare is concerned, well, as long as gamers continue to behave like labotomised sheeple, Activision will continue to treat them as such.

Well, I understand how you feel but since it's a company that makes profit, they will continue making games that are profitable until we see something like ''Call of Dooty: Attack of the Mutant Clowns!''.
The solution is simple: STOP buying them. Even better, don't ever bother with them, so they will get no publicity.
When they will have no revenue from the series they will bury it so fast, you won't believe it.
In fact, personally, I don't buy games I'm not interested in. I even don't claim games that are given away in this forum, if I think I will not like them and won't play them.
That's where reviews are usefull. For every new game, you can see if it's good before buying it.

They're doing the typical American thing of oversaturating people with their brand until people get sick of it. They're impatient and greedy. COD used to cause lines of people waiting at midnight for stores to start selling them - I disliked COD back then as well, but at least people anticipated the game. Now it's like "oh, another one?". Sure, it may still sell for a while but then it will crash badly and the entire series will be dead as a dodo. And yet, if they put more effort into the games and more time between them, they would make just as much money and even more since it would prevent people of getting sick of the games.
Personally, I lost track of all the different COD games - with their ridiculous sub titles, it becomes confusing as hell to keep them apart. Add to this, the ridiculous prices even the oldest COD games still go for on Steam even during sales ... and Activision really is a scummy greedy slimey company. I still think that EA is actually in third place after Activision and Ubisoft when it comes to horrible publishers. They're all pretty crap but still, if you look at the crap they all pull ...
