Narushima: The only thing I would like to know is how is the money going to be handled.
avatar
bansama: Most likely it's all going in that guy's pocket. It seems very obvious now that the devs certainly won't any of it and I doubt the charities will either. (In fact, I wonder if the charities are even aware of this "project")

That is the really big question here. Unlike past "events", such as the Humble Indie Bundle, all he will say about where the money is going is "I won't discuss agreements". That absolutely screams "SCAM!" to me and I'm sure others feel the same way. All it would take to settle this is a bit of honest disclosure on the part of Jochen, though at this point, I doubt anyone would believe him, even if he were being honest.
As for the charities, I asked Child's Play and the Electronic Frontier Foundation, and both gave me the same answer, basically they had been contacted by the guy and were ready to renew the experience from the Humble Indie Bundle, but they did not give any formal approval.
Then he launched the site without warning them, and now they are trying to figure out what the hell is going on, and considering pulling out as fast as possible, which will surely bring more "lawsuits" into play.
If someone could send an e-mail to the other two, German, associations to explain the situation to them that would be very nice, as I don't speak German. If you do, make sure to provide them with links to every web page that has been cited in this thread.

I kinda had that feeling once I saw the WWF logo on the site. As I really doubt they'd have much to do with something like this without a lot of legal documentation in place (not to mention that their inclusion seems way out place given the other charities selected.

I could do that. I also have some fellows on ICQ who could help me out about this.
Another post of Jochen:
"
I dont now what you do here. Charitys should be happen when they got help but when they not want they have enough money. What a shame for that ORganisations that really need Money.
And the open Directory is not public. Only public when you post. On Humble Bundle all games were on public Downloads, too. I can post all Humble Links too and all can download it, so dont do like this double moral."
I am not sure, but this sounds really like trolling

i'm not even sure what does it MEAN. Seriously, what? Can't the guy at least get someone to fix his english when he's trying to discuss serious matters?
Maybe I'm misunderstanding him, but it sounds like he knows how to exploit their system to allow people to get the HIB content for free. Not sure whether he's just boasting about that or making an idle threat of sorts that he could "leak" such information.
Either way, I simply wouldn't trust the guy.

My brain hurts.

That's what he says. If they post his download links, he will post the direct download links to the Indie games.
That's just...patheric

Erm .. that's not what he says. As broken as his English is, it's not that broken:
And the open Directory is not public. Only public when you post. On Humble Bundle all games were on public Downloads, too. I can post all Humble Links too and all can download it, so dont do like this double moral."
Read what he said: "all the Humble Bundle games were a public download" (as in, a straight link that does not change and could be passed around) "so I could post the link if I wanted to and everyone would be able to download it" (as in, due to the type of link, it's easy for others to gain access to it). Nowhere does he say he WOULD do it, he merely says that, because of the insecurity of that type of link, he COULD. Please, if you drag people through the mud, don't make up crap or you're just as bad.

I don't pull mud up, that's how I interpreted his Engrish 9P

But you assumed he was being malignant - I don't like witch hunts for this reason. People see shadows everywhere and start spreading more bad stuff which is based on air. I've seen how it can harm people and I don't like it.
When I was a kid, an old guy living a few houses away from the school was rumored to "like kids". Kids would run past his house, afraid he'd come outside, and adults would look at him with an unfriendly look in their eyes. It turned out (my father later told me) that the rumour started when his GRANDDAUGHTER had went to visit him after school and because some parents didn't know she was his granddaughter (they never asked either) they spread the rumour that he was inviting random kids over inside. And then people started to spread more and more pathetic rumours or would twist anything he said to have a bad meaning. In the end the poor man had to move because of harassment by parents, neighbours and kids.

Alright alright, I get it. I also just want this to end, but it seems just to go worse. And that this guy threatens with complaints and sues(like to me) doesn't make me really sympathic for him, but it seems I really get too emotionally attached to this.
I bought Aztaka from the developers page for that reason. I wanted to wait for a discount, but situations like those forces me to support the real victims...

Sorry if I got annoyed by it but people take things too far sometimes. This guy is obviously shady but please leave it at that.
Genius idea guys:
Those who like this website: Stop posting about it, you are inviting the trolls who don't which will only hurt it and lead to problems
Those who don't like this website: Stop posting about it. You are inviting the trolls who do like it. You are also advertising for it every time you post in this thread, since the topic title is the URL itself.
