Technically, China produced one of the most prosperous and stable regime that ever existed in human history, regulated by a gentry class that instigated a constant cycle of rebellion whenever the imperial family became unfit to rule.

Western powers f*cked it up, when they came in with their superior military and dictated to China what's what (including forcing them to trade opium which was up to that point forbidden in China).

China "adapted" by learning from the European powers (including Russian Communism).

Please, look at your history before you try putting your culture on a pedestal.

I'll give something to China: They managed to put a lid on their population problem. You might not agree with the method, but it's quite a feat regardless. Western nations have yet to achieve such control over an aspect of their society that is so vital to their own prosperity.

PS: Do you know where the latest state of the art solar power technology can be found? Yeah, you got that right, it can be found in China. So much for the West fostering the most responsible technological development.

Because the summary in the OP makes it sound like the surrogates are producing this milk. As in the surrogates aren't themselves modified, but somehow producing different milk in accordance with the embryos modification.

The difference is, the four-legged cows and milk they produce are commercially exploitable. One dairy cow can produce up to 11 metric tons of milk a year.

One wonders why this research was done in China, though. The Chinese aren't big consumers of dairy products, because most ethnic Chinese (something like 95%) are lactose intolerant.

Essentially how this type of genetic engineering works is that you take the human gene, combine it with a promoter (something to control the gene), and finally use one of several methods to transfer the human gene into the host genome hoping that you don't disrupt something important. The host genome then expresses the human gene. In this case they took the human gene to create lysozyme, combined it with a cow promoter, and transferred it into the cow embryo genome. In the paper: out 312 transgenic blastocysts, only 17 grew up to be healthy cows of which 4 lactated normally with cow milk that contained a human protein at higher concentrations typically found by the cow analog in pure cow's milk (so it's still mostly cow milk).

You are right, i am so wrong that i am not living in China :). Oh it would be so fine to be executed for expressing my political opinion. Sarcasm at side. Western powers have done what every power would do when its potent enough. They just forced their will on weaker nations in the world. Like little children fighting for a playtool.

They control their population by famine, execution of unwanted people, 1-child-per-family policy, they execute mostly young people for organ-trading, their working conditions are abysmal, they have no pollution control. The living conditions of the lower classes are very bad. They have the worlds biggest standing army and police force. That is really something to be proud of. What a wonderful Orwellian state to live in.

But chinese science has a huge manpower base to rely on. I do not think that chinese scientists are worse then their western counterparts. In fact they are even better and work harder then we do. E.G. They invented paper and gunpowder long before Europe. So its only fair that China adapts some technology from us in return.

But that has nothing to do with human rights situation in China.

The govt says raw milk is unfit for human consumption..even when evidence shows raw milk has been consumed since the agricultural revolution

So they'll have to nuke the milk for babies which basically makes it worthless for babies.
