No one.......what he meant originally about suicide being a dumb choice is that the choice was a dumb/poor one to make. He didn't mean she was intellectually dumb perse.

If the thinks I've said in school, in the classroom were ever public, I could never work as a government official. Schools (and colleges, etc.) are places of the free mind and for shaping of once personality. A good teacher can keep a class under control. Surveillance in such a manner is not good for the development of our children.

And privacy is very doable, if you know how to handle it.

I didn't mean gov't surveillance of the schools, but for the school to monitor itself. Big difference there. Also most schools use video only monitoring i.e. no audio so no recording of what one said. Plus the tapes aren't kept forever or even until you start working a job.

And privacy is mostly gone btw......gov't knows a shite ton of everything you do. Medical records, billing info for stuff bought, etc.

That is better (or rather less bad). Maybe in extrem cases like this. But generally I remain critical...

But I for one wish they'd had it or better staff monitoring of the kids back in my day. Most of the time there was no way to show you were telling the truth on your claims as there were no witnesses in many cases(or they allied with the bullies for some reason), and in he said/they said cases the staff usually dropped the matter and didn't pursue it if at all.

Have you ever worked with big groups of children for prolonged periods of time? Because it doesn't sound that way.

Believe me, they don't. I know what I'm talking about. I think it's different in the US, but just one example, over here, you generally pay in cash here.

Actually, it is probably possible, but it would require clever distribution of children with certain personality traits to classes, and that's ... Well ... Not technically doable. Monitoring is far easier :D

You can never prevent bullying, like you can't prevent any crime 100% sure. But with good teachers and administrative action you can prevent the worst. And goind the easiest choice rarely the best ;-P

There's no curing ills like this, as sad as it is some will always fall through cracks. We have to do our best to help the people who need it while striking a balance with not oppressing everyone in the process.

Do I know the exact solution? Not really. I've seen schools do too little and too much. I've seen millions of dollars apparently pissed away on current anti-bullying training and programs for educational staff because apparently they still fucking suck at it. I don't blame them for getting it wrong sometimes but it seems their process is actually built around whatever cargo cult voodoo is currently in vogue rather than actual testable and repeatable scientific study results.

I agree but again this isn't the answer, and if you're inferring that doing anything is better than doing nothing that isn't always true.
