Neobr10: But there simply isn't, deal with it. Piracy is piracy, it doesn't matter if you're downloading System SHock os Black Ops 2. You may be morally ok with downloading a copy of System Shock because it is not avaulable anymore, but it doesn't change the fact that it IS piracy.

You didn't even try to prove why i'm wrong, yet you call my argument stupid? Give me break.
I'm not debating semantics about the "piracy" term, if you pay attention. I am saying not recognizing a difference between vastly different types of piracy is stupid.

What i'm saying is that there are no types of piracy. Piracy is piracy. Unless there is a new law or something that makes downloading old games for free legal, there are no different types of piracy. Downloading System Shock and Black Ops 2 are both equally ilegal. You might be morally ok with the former, but that's a subjective matter. Objectively, there is no difference.

But again you insist on calling my point of view stupid without even using rational arguments to counter it.

I'm calling it stupid because it is. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE ARG when there are clearly vast differences, even legal ones considering LucasArts and other companies have passively allowed abandonware to continue according to abandonia staff and a ton of abandonware is in licensing hell which prevents anyone from suing you over it.

But hey continue to be all ARG and RAR about it to suit your weird obsession with it.

Neobr10: ... What i'm saying is that there are no types of piracy....
Sure there are different types of piracy. Probably almost everybody would say so. There could be a poor man doing piracy or a rich millionaire. It could be piracy of an abandoned game or zero-day piracy of a AAA blockbuster. It could be piracy to circumvent DRM and you bought it before, or you didn't. ... Surely any of these types doesn't make piracy legal, but for being a different type legality is not the deciding criterion. Surely you agree.

So yes, piracy is always illegal, but still there are different types and some of them are just much nicer than others seen from a ethical perspective. Don't see what's wrong with this. :)

Realms of Darkness a fairly obscure RPG for the Commodore 64 and Apple 2 by SSI.
I only heard of two or three copies of the game surfacing, well the c64 version anyway.

When I think of game extinction, I think of OCEAN titles. I have this one game by OCEAN called inferno. I never could get it to work on post windows 95 systems. Interesting then that it came on a CD rom.

I think I might own the world's only copy :) I know that isn't true, but it sure doesn't seem to come up much and I think that's weird because:
a: It came in a really sweet tin case
b: It came with a full color comic book
c: It looked really advanced for the time

It's clear the game had a pretty big budget and yet it's so mysterious!

carnival73: But I was wondering if anyone else here has either heard rumors or have their own original suspicion as to some titles that might take a dive soon?
/yawn

TPB, WBB, RT... so, no.

Ocean man that name brings back memories some of my favorite games on the c64 were by them, they also use to add these nice tunes and/or small mini games that would play while the game was loading.

Like these ones: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkns_VIWGQA

Sorry about that I just been feeling a bit nostalgic.

Terpor: Soldier of Fortune 1 & 2
Hitman Contracts
Prey
Ghostbusters - The Video Game
Silent Hill 2,3,4
The Curse of Monkey Island
SoF 1 and 2 need to get HD updates so bad. Such awesome games. I loved the raw violence of the first one and just how effective everything was. Physics could stand some improvement, but at least when you threw a flashbang, people got stunned. And body armor did something real instead of just being some goofy damage modifier.

oh how I love Raven studios.

nothing to be sorry for. =) this is worth listening to for 10 minutes. I hate to sound like a chip tune snob, but I appreciate when something is *real*.

I'm just getting facts straight here, i don't have any kind of obssession with that. I'm actually morally ok with downloading games not available anywhere (even though i don't do it myself because i'm a collector), but it doesn't change the fact that it is technically piracy. ABandonware doesn't exist.

I'm fine with that part, that's not what I took issue with. I took issue with you saying there was no difference. Abandonware is a fine term because it distinguishes a certain type of "piracy" from the rest. Words that mean shit, which describe shit no other word describes, should not be dismissed out of hand.

Vast differences, i.e. between pirating a new game being sold and needing to make it's budget back and pirating a 20 year old game no one is selling or even has the rights to sell, are VERY different things. Your previous posts indicated otherwise.

That's like I have a pretty old game that I love by Cryo (Famous in France for adventure games) called Commander Blood, searched it one time on E-bay only one came and in the description said "rare game", the collector inside of me was pretty happy anyway. :)

Thought I recognized him, the guy from the Hitchcock films.
