This is exactly the reason I hesitate to buy "golden oldies" on Steam when the come up. I would much rather buy them from GoG. With GoG, you have the advantages of knowing:
1) You will not have compatibility issues with your current machine or OS;
2) You will have good customer support if you encounter any problems at all;
3) You won't have to deal with DRM of any sort;
4) You can install your game on any computer, any time you wish;
5) You will have any and all add-ons and extras it is possible to get.
In addition, GoG is almost always cheaper than Steam.
There are still plenty of classic PC games out there that haven't made it to GoG, yet (Monkey Island series, anyone?), but with each new developer who comes on board, the possibility of seeing your favorite games on this site increases. That's why I hesitate to buy my older games anywhere else.
Regarding Aliens Vs. Predator, one of the guys that was on the original developing team (SirLemonHead) has taken the time to make a port of the old executeable. The result is an AvP.exe which will run on today's hardware without all the bugs that plagued the original release. If you've been unable to play your AvP Gold because you have an Nvidia card, go to this forum page (http://forumplanet.gamespy.com/tech_support/b49029/19799417/p21) and click on the link to the "latest test version." From there, you can download the "MyAvP.exe" file and replace your executeable.
Game on!

Thankyou Jason Kingsley and crew!
If you released Aliens versus Predator, I will buy 5 copies!!! Having the ability to play the game on newer systems would be simply amazing.
PS: I can't recommend Evil Genius enough. Great work GOG!

Zolgar: Awesome sauce, I'd been hoping we'd get Evil Genius.
.. I kinda feel for the GOG folks though.. They release new games, and instead of everyone being happy about new games it's all "Give us this one, too!"
>.>

Sure, but they also buy the games so GOG doesn't really care (can't imagine a bigger thank you), I'd imagine. There are so many great old games that releasing a couple barely makes a dent in the collective desires of the community.
what a great announcement! i'll be sure to pick some games from the rebellion catalague when i have the money. I am interested in ground control and empire earth.
LoM, great addition to the GoG-collection. When will it arrive???
Oh god yes! I played the LoM demo to bits back in the day (back with Myth and Dark Omen), but never found it available anywhere. Will check back every 30 minutes until it becomes available :p
Hm. Of people who have played both, would most folks say EE Gold is better than EE2 Gold or vice-versa?
I played Lords of Magic quite a few years ago. It was nice setup, (it was a spinoff from the Lords of the Realm series) but I found it to be ridiculously hard.
I have a copy of Evil Genius sitting on my game shelf waiting for me to get around to installing it. I picked it up for $10 in a brick-and-mortar store a few years back.

EE2 is more of everything that EE has. It also adds a few more resources, a concept of parcels of land that you have to capture, plus some overall management tools that are cool. Both of them are clever in using citizens as another resource.
EE's expansion pack is rather weak. It adds a couple of civilizations, which is nice (yay cyber ninja) but the extra epoch is pretty much useless. Thankfully, the main game isn't seriously lacking in anything. The EE2 expansion pack is much better.
They're both great games. EE Gold at $6 is a no-brainer, it's easily worth that. You'll eventually want both... start with EE Gold and learn the way it plays and then move on to EE2 once you decide you want more options in the game.
Does this mean a Master of Orion annoucement is near?

Great info. Thanks!
Brilliant, especially considering none of those games were actually developed or published by Rebellion!
AVP? Judge Dredd? Rogue Trooper?
Great games though, nonetheless.

soulgrindr: PS/ If any rebellion guys are reading this, what happened to the 2000AD games? Didn't you guys pay for a long exclusive license or something?
I'm not from Rebellion, but that's correct in a manner of speaking ;) Rebellion actually purchased 2000AD years ago. They own it.
And yes, Rogue Trooper is generally considered to be awesome. It's still sitting in my to-play pile, sadly, so I can't add my personal opinion to that, but I did buy it purely on the strength of other people's comments.
Dredd vs Death, OTOH... meh. It had some great stuff going for it, but the gameplay just wasn't good enough. Quirks like the bizarro rag-doll physics didn't really help. And the massive nail through the coffin was the (frankly repulsive) in-game advertising. I played the demo, and there was no way I was going to spend money on it after that.

Brilliant! Thank you!
And yay, it even works with the pre-'gold' version of the game (with an additional download)!

AvP is simply superb.

So why aren't they using it for games? *sob*
I greatly enjoyed Rogue Trooper, though i think it got lost in the shift to the next generation.
D vs D I haven't even played the demo, but i'd be willing to throw down $5.99 to give it a spin.
AvP rocked. I think i enjoyed it more than AvP2, although that was also awesome and had a nicely integrated storyline.
ABC Warriors, Bad Company, Ballad of Halo Jones (by the creator of the watchmenTM), Strontium Dog, etc would make interesting games. Dredd and Rogue Trooper have a lot more potential to be exploited.
and come on, DAN DARE!!!
PS/ is it true they are making a Wii version of RT?!
