Landeril: Man! Flint dying made me mad! Then Tass died and it was all okay <_<

ChaunceyK: That was something almost refreshing about the DL novels...the characters weren't allowed to just live forever. Their deaths were written into the novels, rather than "And they lived happily ever after, eventually dying of natural causes...but we won't tell you about it, that'd be too depressing."
I noticed. My favorite character was killed. Which was kinda a slap in the face. Stupid Half-Elf >_< Your supposed to live!!!
FR is "okay".
DL is cookie-cutter fantasy.

So, no, not a fan.
Like them both plus Planescape, but not too found on Eberron, Darksun and Pathfinder.

you fuckers, give Dragon Lance back to Weis and Hickman!

and while we are on the topic: stop neglecting Eberron! That shitty MMO of turbine is not a viable replacement for more novels and source books ... you cock stains.

They had their Eberron year, already. There's no reason to think they're avoiding Eberron novels. They'll publish some if they get some good manuscripts, no doubt.

I happen to enjoy that MMO of Turbine. :-/
DL is rather good - especially if you read the Annotated Chronicles and Annotated Legends where you will get little annotations from Weiss and Hickman. To be honest you will learn to hate the letters TRH (Hickman) since he is clearly a pompous religious nutjob. But the books are good.
FR was great with the first 10 books by Salvatore about Drizzt but now he has completely lost it and is just a hack doing it for money. There is no sense of danger when Drizzt now can take on 1000 orcs all by himself. This is simply bad writing by Salvatore and what is up with the stupid names for his chars?
I don't think all fantasy must be on the level of Tolkien but it wouldn't hurt if writers would put more effort into it.
yeah, Hickman is the weakest link in that duo. the dude has got some good ideas but his personal beliefs trip things up a little bit ...

I prefer the stuff from Wies that is independent of Hickman: the doom brigade series and the two solo adventures about Caramon and Raistlin.

... although I do consider the Sumer of Flame to the be pinnacle title in the Dragonlance series, and thats a Wies & Hickman title.

*edit* the "Heroes" series was also damned good.

1 side track question here. Is DDO still playable? I can't no matter what DDO file I DL play the game. I keep getting an error message that Turbine can't connect or something like that and the game shuts down.

To the topic at hand.

I really wish more people near me would play pnp D&D. I have just about giving up on these companies making a good cRPG game again. When I have time I try to go online on NWN1 & 2 for multy-play but usually find no one on? Or I just can't connect for some odd reason. Don't have that much online time anyway so I guess it's for the best. Living here in Japan with this time and date difference is hard to find others to play.

#1 yes DnDo is still online, it's gone F2P(-ish) so you probably should go to the main site and read up about it / download the game from there. also, the EU service and the NU service are totally separate so you may have to look up the EU site if you not in the US/canada.

#2 try doing a search for NWN (1 or 2) "persistent worlds" ... people have used the NWN tool sets to put up some home brew MMOs that you may find interesting.

#3 you can also try to find a pnp D&D group that runs their games off of message boards / chat rooms. then you don't have to be local with the people your playing with, try looking around / asking on a site dedicated to D&D 'cause I don't know of any active ones first hand.

Thanks for the help guys.

NWN1 has a lot of PW's and NWN2 is slowly getting there. Just my hours are so bad. :p

Thought about doing D&D via email just couldn't work out the details with my friend state side. Will keep digging around though. I know that if I were able to go to Tokyo there tons of people there. Again time is against me.

I still don't understand why WoTC wanted another Spellplague? Maybe one day if I really sit down to it. I might understand it all and of 4th addition rules. Had a blast reading the Dragonlance novels and some of the Forgotten Realms. I even have the Dragonlance movie. I'm waiting and hoping that they will continue the story. But the last two D&D movies should have not been made. Especially the first one. Hell, I could roleplay(act) better than that and I'm far from being an actor for sure.

Oh man, I love the second one. I can't wait for the next one. I will agree about the first one though. Awful. But for some reason I've watched it a lot. Something about it just makes it a fun watch. Have you ever watched/played Scourge of Worlds?

Can't say I have. Will have to look into that.
