It looks like it's a thousand years old... literally.
Kind of a vegan version of Surströmming and probably as smelly.

probably just as evil as a thousand year egg

Klumpen0815: Tempeh (I wonder why I still haven't gotten the opportunity)
and Nattō (I know, it's probably disgusting)
these are just delicious!

i love tempeh stir-fried with sambal and long beans :D

I can just have natto and rice as meal, love that stuff

there's a bad smell?! from that episode of good mythical morning, I highly doubt natto is anywhere as smelly as Surströmming !

For the record, as a swede, I won't go near an open can of surströmming, much less eat the thing (it's said the smell is worse than the taste though). On the other hand, I'd like to try nattou.

Oh dear, even I know, that you should open it 1. outside and 2. in a bucket of water to survive that smell.
Actually, opening up a can of surströmming in a closed building is forbidden in Köln/Cologne afaik.

If any Middle European or even German here knows where I can get real natto and tempeh, I'd appreciate the information.

What's the texture like? Are they the same as fish eyes or gooey-like like pig and to a lesser extent duck eyes?
It was many moons ago I ate a goats eye at some algerian place in soho, it was black, I swallowed it in one!. didn't
fancy biting into it.
I would like one of those sumptuous medieval feasts with ridiculous dishes like roasted wild boar filled with goose filled with pheasant filled with pigeons filled with plums and berries and whatnot. Just meat and fresh fruit and onions and stuff, no lame ass side dishes!

You probably wouldn't enjoy those.
I know some reenacters who are taking their stuff very seriously, always look at the authenticity of everything and one of them has bloody old recipes. Some of them studied "Germanistik" and learned "Mittelhochdeutsch", which comes in handy sometimes.
Since most of the year people back then ate extremely bland food mostly consisting of apples, oats and millet without all the salt, pepper and whatnot we are eating so much today, they did the exact opposite when it came to one of those feasts.
The amount of spices used at such a meal is simply insane and for me not edible anymore.

As with the last thread, I don't mean "medieval" in the absolute accurate historical way down to the exact amount of salt and seasoning. I think you just want to convert me to vegeterianism!

I have already tried vegeterianism (even veganism) by slowly phasing into it over many weeks and sticking with it for quite a while. I felt it made me weak, no energy. Now I'm back to eating whatever as I didn't feel more vital or cleansed or life force-ified or whatever on healthy food and I didn't switch too quickly and paid great attention to variety, lots of fruits and veggies and quinoa and amaranth and millet and whatnot. Just doesn't work for me so if I want the energy to lift and throw around 100kg guys then I need to eat everything including animals and chocolate and whatnot, I know it sounds nonsensical from a nutritional standpoint but that's how it is for me, I've tried a plethora of different nutritional ways. Everybody is different, there's no one thing that works for everybody. Stuffed pigeons and wild boar, come to me!

PS: I also read stuff in Mittelhochdeutsch, e.g. Parzival so those accuracy reenacters can't all too easily pull one over me, plus I have enough history books to supply a small school library with :-P

Nope, I didn't try to convert you, if I'd do this, I do it quite directly.
I just wanted to make clear, that the abundance of spices on those feast meals is awful, unrelated to the main ingredients. I like meals with a lot of salt, but it's nice to taste something else too.

Regarding your other topic: With enough protein I never had problems with strength in my craft or martial arts and I threw wooden planks and people aound that were a lot bigger and heavier than me all the time. Since there is a v body building world champion and people like this one, the connection you got there is misinformation. If you don't eat the same amount of protein etc... of vegetable origin you ate before of other origin, of course you'll become weak, most people fail at that at some point, which I don't quite understand, because there's always stuff like kidney beans etc... Of course in the long run you need a bigger variety of food and then you usually extend your usable lifespan a lot compared to the current western habits.
The funny and ironic thing is: My teeth look a lot more carnivorous than the usual human ones, not only the fangs, but then again, the ones of gorillas (also vegan) look even more mean, so it must be for self defense. :D
