iainmet: The Securom has been removed from Bioshock now. When you start it up for the first time it patches the game which removes it completely.
Incorrect. It's still there. The activation limit has been removed, but you still have to activate every time you install the game/change PC components/whatever else affected the activations.
Hmm, in this situation,

I will pay Obsidian, if they have an Kickstarter project or with their next game.

For Bioshock i found this(August 11, 2007):

"Creators of BioShock Given a New Identity

Irrational Games, the developer behind System Shock 2 as well as BioShock, is no longer known as Irrational Games. The formerly independent studio which had both of their branches acquired by Take-Two Interactive last year under the 2K Games label, will now be known as 2K Australia and 2K Boston.

Take-Two assures everyone that these changes will result in no loss of creative control for the companies. “We’re proud to be part of the 2K Games family and enjoy the new opportunities and artistic freedoms this strengthened relationship provides,” said Irrational president Ken Levine. “The name change signifies our growing position as a central part of 2K Games, and we plan to ensure our future titles continue to set new standards of quality and innovation for the industry.”

Take-Two can say what they want about creative control – everyone knows what eventually happens when a company buys out another one, and the developers “formally known as Irrational” might feel the ax smite them sooner than they think."

Time to open the Transmission(my favorite torrent client)...

Hmmm, I have the Steelbook version of Bioshock for the PC. Could have swore I read that Securom had been removed. On Steam it shows as completely removed now from what I see on the Steam forums, remains to be seen though.

Just found the article from a few years back, my mistake and I apologise, misinterpreted it, you are correct and its the activation limit that has been removed, not the activation outright.

I'm Titanium.

Nice to meet you glad you're glad we're glad.
I have the one with the statue and the second with the vinyl LP, IIRC, people went apeshit when it was released with only (I think) 3 activations, after a day or so the devs relented and removed the limit or increased it significanly, it may have been totally removed later.

As for Fallout New Vegas suggest you either Grin & Bear it and use Steam or find a fixed exe after buying it to bypass Steam. However you will have to activate it first and patch it up to latest build before applying any fix. Also bear in mind that if you do start Steam up it will remove the fix and replace with what is supposed to be there.

Other than that get over yourself, seem to remember a similar thread you created not that long ago that had the community arguing over DRM / Steam and whatever else
Both Bioshock 1 & 2 have SecuROM and actually Bioshock 2 version from Steam is unplayble without a crack from one of the crack groups(Skidrow,RELOADED...etc). It is just bugged as hell
I was gonna buy some bacon today but it was pretty expensive and I have been trying to lose weight, so I bought bananas instead.

Thought you all should know.

Must admit, never had any issues with the Steam version of Bioshock 2. It is quite annoying though having to sign into Games for Windows Live to be able to save your game or even get the latest updates. Its an extra level on top of Steamt. There is no need to add any extra stuff with protection etc if the game is on the Steam platform I personally think.

I haven't had any issues with Bioshock 2 in steam either. But I have to agree that GFWL in steam games is pretty damn annoying. It just feels so unnecessary and it has such a horrible update process.

It was two activations, and they upped it to 3 (or was it 5?) after a while. They released a reset tool, but it didn't work for many people (myself included). I was one of those that 'went apeshit' since, not knowing about the activation limits, I was locked out of my game for weeks due to having changed some of my PC's components after installing the game.

The activation limits were removed many months after release.

I am not denying people had loads of issues with it, know a few people myself that had to get fixed exe files. I must have been one of the lucky ones without any issues. Mind you I didnt buy it for a few month after release so a few patches had landed by the time I got it.

I'm talking about Bioshock 2 bought on the last promo on Steam... The game was unplayable...

I honestly dont think that will be a Steam issue in all fairness. Trouble is there is so much going on when that game starts up could be anything causing the issue.

It's kinda Steam issue cause they sell games that don't work :) They should test the games before selling them like GOG do
