Hmmm, I have the Steelbook version of Bioshock for the PC. Could have swore I read that Securom had been removed. On Steam it shows as completely removed now from what I see on the Steam forums, remains to be seen though.

Just found the article from a few years back, my mistake and I apologise, misinterpreted it, you are correct and its the activation limit that has been removed, not the activation outright.

I have the one with the statue and the second with the vinyl LP, IIRC, people went apeshit when it was released with only (I think) 3 activations, after a day or so the devs relented and removed the limit or increased it significanly, it may have been totally removed later.

Both Bioshock 1 & 2 have SecuROM and actually Bioshock 2 version from Steam is unplayble without a crack from one of the crack groups(Skidrow,RELOADED...etc). It is just bugged as hell

Must admit, never had any issues with the Steam version of Bioshock 2. It is quite annoying though having to sign into Games for Windows Live to be able to save your game or even get the latest updates. Its an extra level on top of Steamt. There is no need to add any extra stuff with protection etc if the game is on the Steam platform I personally think.

I haven't had any issues with Bioshock 2 in steam either. But I have to agree that GFWL in steam games is pretty damn annoying. It just feels so unnecessary and it has such a horrible update process.

It was two activations, and they upped it to 3 (or was it 5?) after a while. They released a reset tool, but it didn't work for many people (myself included). I was one of those that 'went apeshit' since, not knowing about the activation limits, I was locked out of my game for weeks due to having changed some of my PC's components after installing the game.

The activation limits were removed many months after release.

I honestly dont think that will be a Steam issue in all fairness. Trouble is there is so much going on when that game starts up could be anything causing the issue.

It's kinda Steam issue cause they sell games that don't work :) They should test the games before selling them like GOG do
