Note that you only need Microsoft Points for DLC; the games themselves can be purchased with a credit card (points also work, I think). Store prices are listed in your currency, not points, so you can see right away what the real cost of something is.

As I understand it, Dead Rising 2 uses GfWL and demands that it has to be activated online, which would make this argument academic if it's a new GfWL-wide policy.

The funniest thing is, that this spinning head bug is steam's fault. It happens only on versions downloaded from steam and is caused by some problems with files corruption during download process. Retail version doesn't have that. Saves eating bug is also caused by steam. All you have to do is deactivate steamcloud and no more missing saves.
I don't have ANY bugs or glitches on my "legally challenged" version which I downloaded, so that i could play the game 'till steam kindly unlock mine.

I call bullshit on that. In order to buy it you need to pass the DRM based check. Sure if you're going to pirate it the DRM doesn't apply, but when does DRM ever apply to pirated materials?

And my point stands that if they pulled it to fix the DRM rather than releasing it without DRM, that sort of implies that DRM applies, now doesn't it?

And really, that's sort of like saying that the entire game is DRM free when you can launch it without after you've run it past the checks. The DLC and the game don't work if you don't run it by the DRM first.

EDIT: And what's the deal with getting stuck in a mountain, yo. I had to back up to a recent save because I jumped into a mountain and couldn't get back out. Most annoying bug I've encountered yet. Although that they didn't bother to fix the VATS non-shooting bug is up there with that.

No, I'm right, the DLC does require it, now the disc based stuff might be different, but you're not going to get that last one except as a part of the GOTY or as an independent download.

And suggesting that it's DRM free when the downloaded version isn't is disingenuous at best. I'm not sure numbers wise, but I'd venture a guess that a large portion of the total sales were sold via download as it's the only way of buying individual DLC and the only way other than the GOTY to get that last one.

Open the download folder. Take Anchorage for example. Find these files:
Anchorage - Main.bsa
Anchorage - Sounds.bsa
Anchorage.esm
Copy to Fallout3/Data

DRM gone.

Indeed, and you might be right that had New Vegas used GFWL again it might have had said activation. I'm not really saying "wow GFWL rocks" either, it's an annoying program with a really annoying store and there's a reason it's been all but abandoned. I'm just saying Fallout 3's "DRM" wasn't really, and was better than New Vegas'.

Who really cares anyway, wait until all the DLC and patches are out, pay for them to support Bethesda and Obsidian, then download the complete and DRM-free version a year from now from some torrent. Problem solved.
