Tomorrow I'll finally get to eat the first chocolate. My mom bought me an Advent calendar. It's been sitting next to my bed for ages now, with all of its still forbidden delights calling out to me. Not much longer, now..

Anyone else lusting after their Advent chocolate?

What´s an advent calendar?
I may not be lusting for chocolate, since it´s practically my diet :D, thanks fast methabolism.

Advent calendars are these containers of various sorts with 24 compartments, 1 for each day of December until Christmas Eve. They contain some sort of nice things, and around here it's chocolate, a piece of chocolate for every day!
As chocolate, it's horribly overpriced, but it's the thought that counts.

Back when I was 6 or something, my sister ate all my chocolates in secret, and then closed the lids so they looked like they hadn't been opened. It traumatized me.. *sniffle sob sob*

We don't have this awesome habit here... :(

That is a great tradition, and I only received a variant of an advent calendar once, when my son made me one in school.

I say variant, as it was about a 2.5m craft that was made by him at school, and consisted of a large Santa Claus with a long "tail" consisting of 24 messages, folded over, tied on individually with alternating red and green yarn, and adorned with a bell on each message.

I was supposed to untie one message a day, and the contents were little tasks or favors that he would perform around the house to help.

The thing looked so cool, I never did untie one, and still put it up every year.

I can still feel a warm glow thinking about it, and consider myself very fortunate that one of the messages didn't read "..and tomorrow, I will slit your throat," otherwise I wouldn't be here to have this fine memory to look back on.

When I was younger, my advent calenders always had little LEGOs to build in them. So each day you would build a little LEGO and by the end you'd have a city. I thought that was pretty cool, but chocolate is equally cool!

I'm anticipating the GOG/LucasArts Christmas announcement. Does that count?

I hated the anticipation, it's pure mind torture. When I grew up, I think I was 16 or 17, I bought two of those advent calenders and ate all 48 chocolates in one day just to recuperate from that childhood trauma.

True story. :P

Depends. Are you a bad enough dude to anticipate it like chocolate?

Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy one of those bigger Marabou bars and then eat the whole thing while looking smugly at some kids that aren't allowed to do that? :p

That's a difference purpose, it wasn't mine but yeah, they're rather pricey. I'm actually eating a very yummy chocolate with a similar taste as those that come in advent calenders but they cost like 1$/100g. :P

As much as I love chocolate advent calendars, the REAL awesome season for candy (apart from Halloween of course) is Easter. Not only do you get huge chocolate bunnies whose heads you can eat, you also get CADBURY EGGS. There is nothing as awesome as those things.

Around here they also sell lots of Starburst jellybeans at Easter, and those are usually fairly hard to find at other times of the year. The only real drawback to the season is Peeps... I'm not sure who invented those things, but as far as I'm concerned he should be shot.
