How about if they worked as independent studios instead of under EA. I pretty sure studios like Bioware can easily stay independent or semi-independent if they weren't tempted to take the lure of EA's buyout. Once you're under a publisher, you're entirely under their mercy. And almost always all shit seems to happen once EA acquires a new developer, it doesn't happen at first but as time goes on you start to see it.

Ultima Online is doing fine also.

Looking how they try to restore old franchises lately (contrary to Microsoft for example) makes me believe that new Ultima game will be made, sometime in the future. I am deadly serious.

You're blaming EA for trying to change something in their franchices instead of copypasting like Ubisoft or Activision have in common. They tried to do something more with SimCity and it failed.

But new SimCity installement they annouced weeks ago seems to be back to roots.

Red Alert 3 was slightly better than C&C4 but imo, still bad, I can't stand the story.
I never liked the first Generals as a C&C fan, I did like the animation of the the nuclear mushroom cloud exploding but that's about it, never cared about the storyline either. So I doubt I will care about Generals 2. What I'm more concerned about is hearing that EA is not letting the C&C franchise just die off after 4, after C&C4 I think I rather see the franchise dead then see another sequel come out from EA. I want to keep the good memories of the franchise, throwing the bad ones out and let it rest, instead of them consistently digging up the corpse and multilating it.

Richard Garriot mentioned back then he was disgruntled with EA for ruining Ultima. Not sure what their relationships are now.

If by change you mean dumbing down the whole gameplay like in Simcities Socieities you're spot on.
I hate Activision and Ubisoft too, but EA has is well-known for copy and pasting too.
I was actually happy at the new Simcity announcement then. But for now I'll keep my hopes low and expect the worst. The price and DLC is already something that is turning me off. I hope they keep the mod tools in it was SCURKS and BATs that made the previous Simcities everlasting.
And yes, I'm a fanboy of Simcity. But nowhere have I said I want the gameplay to stay the same for ages. Fans including me have complained about gameplay features that they want in the previous Simcities for quite some time now. Any additional gameplay or new gameplay added would be extremely welcome without dumbing down the whole system or cutting it up and releasing it as DLC. There's always a difference in that.

As I've said, the prices for EA games and DLCs are high at the beginning. But they drop down pretty quickly, contrary to the other companies games.

This is why I don't buy EA games day 1 (nobody's forcing you to do that either), but I wait only several months, and the game is for 1/3 of the base price. At least here, maybe in your region EA games remain expensive after long time.

And why do you hate the company who's buying, not the companys that sold Bioware, for instance? It's a mutual thing, you know? You have to sell yourself, to be bought.

Also, Bioware made 3 great franchasises, two entirely under EA (SWTOR and Dragon Age) and you hate EA because they made one bad game (DA2). Well, bad game to you, many people enjoyed it.

The started Dragon Age Origins under EA. The only big company who let restoration of "hardcore tactic RPGs" to happen. One of the few games that weren't "dumbed down" in modern gaming history.

Well, maybe I'm wrong, but I haven't heard anything interesting about Dragon Age before EA. It looked bizarre to me back then. But that's just memories. And im pretty sure they would never complete the game on their own.

I have like 30 games made by EA and almost all of them I like.

When I see arguments like "EA is the worst company eveeeeeer because they RUINED Dragon Age 2 / Mass Effect 3 ending" I just puke.

And in my opinion, every other major gaming company is far worse than EA. That's why.
I may understand why some people hate EA for their "buy everyone" policy. But that's just business...

Guess what, I'm a Baldur's Gate fanboy as well. And because of that I've kept track of Dragon Age Origins religiously the very first day it was announced. IIRC, DAO was first announced in 2004 or in early 2005. Development started on DAO way before EA even bought Bioware. DAO was released in 2009. What was the first thing EA did when DAO was close to release then: delay the PC version for 6 months to coincide with the console releases.

I still buy their games selectively even though I hate them. I bought ME3 to finish up on the storyline. I buy Blizzard games but I've completely boycotted COD. I even have recent Ubisoft games Anno 2070 and HOMM6, guess I suck at boycotting. I don't hate Capcom, I'm still grateful to them for PC SFIV.

You meant DLCs for bioware games. They remain expensive, I agree. Bioware points go on sale from time to time, though.
