I think they mentioned auto-pickup in one of their updates, so it's all good.

Lexor: Nooooo :D I like the way it is, EoBing style ftw :D
Yeah, but EoB didn't require you to look slightly down in order to spot the tiny knife.

Still, I like the way it is. Autopickup would be "too easy" mode.

Look, no one wants teleport pickup, but looking down to a manual, annoying action doesn't add to the gameplay or strategy, in fact it actually detracts from those. Just because old games suffered scads of usability problems doesn't mean new games that operate like the old games have to do the same. Poor usability isn't what we liked about old games and stuff has changed in the last 20 years. It's insane not to benefit from that and just take the good parts of old games.

Hmm... if you really want to... but what about "no in-game map" then? :P

;)

Let them make hardcore mode with all things from the past preserved! :D
In my humble opinions, food (and drink, and rest/sleep, and taking a leak/dump), torch, in-game auto map, auto pick-up projectiles, degrading weapons, character aging, limited game saves, etc. all of these should be OPTIONAL in the game settings. Hardcore gamers can go hardcore; Masochistic gamers can torture themselves if they are so incline; Normal gamers act as per normal; Casual gamers go simple; etc.

Allow gamers to set the difficulty themselves. After all, to quote someone in this forum, gaming is my entertainment, not my job. What is challenging to one gamer might be frustrating to the other.

Not looking for a debate. Just my opinion on a lazy Saturday morning (local time here) at work.

Some games don't really need a map, some games are obtuse without one. I'd have to pass on putting this one into either category since I don't know enough about it.
Aw man! This looks absolutely fabulous! It reached now beta stage! And I LOVE the music! The only thing so far I don't like as much are character portraits and GUI - this needs polishing a bit more.

Release date - somewhere in early 2012. But.. why oh why on Steam as first? :/ I sooo want to play this game.... ;(

I seriously consider getting Steam just for this game.
I'll add my voice to the crowd saying I'm very interested in this project, but the combat looks extremely clumsy. Yes, I know it appears to be basically the same as the combat in Dungeon Master, but I also know that combat was by far the worst aspect of Dungeon Master, and that it would be foolish to ignore the fact.

On the other hand, the video calls the combat tactical, so until we know more about how it actually works, it's probably pointless to speculate further.

The presentation is beautiful, though. I'll give them that.
When GOG announced they're interested in publishing newer titles, it's games like this i'm hoping to see here. *fingers crossed*
This game looks awesome. If the game comes out, and is available for a reasonable price(not more than 30 euro) DRM free, I will buy it as soon as I can.

The spell casting looks interesting, I'm not sure what I think about the way attacks are launched, if they can be keybound then probably that will work okay (the clicking on 4 squares over and over again doesn't look fun, it looks distracting).
They fixed the picking up missiles with an autopickup feature but I have to ask...why is it less frustrating to you to spam a keyboard key to attack instead of clicking a mouse?

I didn't say I liked that feature either, I just found the picking stuff up in the gameplay video so tedious looking I didn't even want to watch it. It's a manual chore that doesn't add any "fun" to the game (realism is not always fun). Now attacking is generally considered part of the core gameplay, so there's more leeway here, but you can certainly implement it in a way that sucks (certainly there's a reason why autoattack got added into Diablo 2 when it was 1 click per attack in Diablo).

Why should a torch be optional? (You mean a constant torch or using torches to light ones way via carrying them?)

But most of the other stuff I agree on.

If the game is one of those that can be downloaded from steam and run even without the client running(via running the buried exe in the steam folders or whatnot) then it might be a bit more tolerable for you possibly. :)

For the first bit, I didn't read enough into the thread to see I had been ninja'd and you had responded to that person's reply...sorry about that.

As for attacking, from what I read it seemed you would have rather pressed a hotkey over and over on your keyboard than hit the left mouse button over and over and this seemed nonsensical somewhat to me is all. If you meant one button press per attack then I revise my statement.....what is the difference between hitting a keyboard key ONCE to attack(and keep attacking) vs hitting the left mouse button to constantly attack an enemy?

Triggering an auto attack with a mouse vs. a keyboard is functionally equivalent (in all but the most insane cases). Clicking once per attack on a mouse button or keyboard is annoying in nearly all cases, full stop. We ditched that pre 2000 for a reason.
