OctopusMan: Perhaps it would have been better if he wore a tank top?

Kabuto: Must be his balls of steel weighing him down. Old age cyborg parts.
Could be :) But a real man would have balls of lead.

DodoGeo: 1. Yeah this is a personal prefrence, just seems like a bad move to have a slow character in a action game.

2. As you say the game is easy now and I can comfirm that even on Hard difficulty. Even if we disregard the 2 weapons, why is it made so easy?
Again a weird design choice.

Another thing I noticed is that in the start the levels are crammed with stuff, it seems the level design gets more and more bland
1. Not really...I mean how fast do you want him to go?

2. Probably something to do with the ego system.

3. GBX finished the remaining levels.......the rest were just polished by them and were mostly finished by 3DR back in the day.
One thing I forgot to mention is how I love Quake 3 as a FPS, that could be my core problem with speed.

I guess you're not into turn based RPGs then? ;)

BTW I urge people to buy this game for at least a good amount as even if you don't like it every dime will count towards a polished sequel that you might actually like more.

stonebro: Enough sources have convinced me that this game is shit that I won't be getting it.

Maybe part of the problem is Duke just doesn't fit as well in 2011 as he did in 1995, but Gearbox still did a botch job with laying out the gameplay the way they did.
I suspect that would have tacked an additional year on to the development time. Some of the criticisms I'm seeing appear to be reasonable, or at least given a reasonable explanation, like the linear gameplay aspect. I'll have to play the full game myself to see, but that does strike me as being a reasonable criticism. Some of the other ones like the jumping and "lack of humor" pretty clearly indicate that the "reviewer" didn't have any idea what the original Duke was about. Personally, I would've like for him to be able to jump a bit higher, but definitely not as high as previously. Even for Duke the jumping was fine when he was a platformer, but kind of ridiculous for an FPS.

What I haven't heard anybody talk much about is the multiplayer experience. From what little I know, that sounds like it could be really, really fun. Jetpacks, holodukes and all that.

But, I think the last bit is that I suspect that a lot of the issues with the game will end up being worked out by the modding community. Just look at how gorgeous eDuke32 looks with the HRP and new rendering engine.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought you were already down on Duke after the demo was released and before the full game was made available.

Ouch. You mean the same Quake 3 which had no single player at all? Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that game was fun, but I'm not sure how one would even go about comparing a game without a single player option with one that's got a single player campaign to play.

I'd be curious to know how DNF stacks up to other games in terms of the multiplayer, I've yet to see anybody spend much time talking about that other than how offensive some people have been by the capture the babe and such.

I'm waiting for Duke Nukem Forever versus MS Office XP.

Absolutly love turn based RPGs and strategy games, and faster RTS stuff like DOW2 or Starcraft2. I also like stuff like the old FPSs like Blood, Duke, Quake, even Bulletstorm had fun gameplay.

I like any genre if the game itself has good fun core gameplay and interesting mechanics.

I'm serious......part of the problem was Pitchford was too greedy and rushed it out early, and he also did it because if he had delayed it people wouldv'e lost faith and dropped preorders.

So which would you have wanted? Not many buying the game but releasing it later after people lose interest & GBX possibly not wanting to make another one? Or them releasing an unpolished game early as they've done, which got many criticisms but might give them enough profit and incentive to make a serious attempt next time?

He's gone mate, he's gone....there is nothing you can do anymore. He's with the angels now

You forgot the last bit....lol. Will you buy it someday even at lower price to support a "proper"(in your eyes) sequel?

Let me rephrase: Like Painkiller, it's almost the same gameplay and it's singleplayer.

I was partially serious :P

The title I put forth was a reference to Terminator 3: Redemption which came out a year after Rise of the Machines on ps2/xbox/gamecube. Redemption followed the same main story as Rise of the Machines but the gameplay and levels were much better. The title itself screams we're sorry for releasing that turd, here's the real version that we meant to make.

If they know people will buy it purely because of Duke Nukem, they'd put in even less effort in the next one in an attempt to cash in on the franchise and people's nostalgia.
