Huh? I'm totally confused. What review? He doesn't own the game and hasn't played the demo. I understand what he's saying but at the same time, just having Duke and Dukeisms doesn't mean it's a Duke game.

Vitek: If he doesn't care for the gameplay, graphic and anything and only wants new Duke game it's not unbiased opinion, it's fanboyism.
He mentioned reasons why people would like and not like the game, and didn't diss either side.

Also, everyone here should pick and choose when to say the word fanboy more carefully, seeing as how many here could be seen as fanboys of their favorite game or Gog/etc.

I should've said view....as in his view on things.

GameRager: Linear nature is because it's a demo......and monster spam is how it's supposed to play. Monsters come en masse and you shoot em.
If the other levels in the game are more open, with various ways to reach the end, ok, but i doubt it, i think they'd have showed that in the demo.
"Monster spam is how it's supposed to play" Well, yeah, i'm sure it's not a bug, but i think infinite spawn is lame design. Seen it in MW, hated it then, hate it now.
[YEAH, i've made a COD comparison, crucify me.]

Infinite? As in not alot but actual infinity? That must be a bug then because they said that won't be in the full game.

Also the levels will be more open but don't expect total non-linearity here. This was never meant ot be 100% like DN3D, and come to think of it DN3D was also pretty linear.....keycards, locked areas, etc.

Didn't count, i'm bad at maths, i got lost after a dozen. I'll try again, with a calculator.

Linear design, as in, architecure, not keycards. I can enter via the front door, back door, window, secret passage, bloody jetpack through the window. That kind of design, not this

Sure, it's not supposed to be DN3d. It'd better be more than that.;)
I played through the demo and wasn't impressed. The game nails some design philosophies that made Duke fun but screwed up on many. The EGO, bad level design and 2 weapon limit destroy what I think the core philosophies of Duke are.

Duke was a badass. However with EGO he often has to hide behind cover. A badass doesn't hide and wait for his EGO (think of the name EGO!) to recharge but instead bursts into a room and blows away anything that moves. Can't really do that anymore since the game limits your weapon choice... Now the level design seems bland. Trudging along 1 path is not Duke, a normal Duke 3D level had multiple paths.

Regardless the game has potential and I'll buy it on sale but my interest plummeted after playing the demo.

I agree it better be better, but YES DN3D was linear as fuck....most of the areas you had to go to in some levels to progress needed to be reached via keycard.

I've said it before...more than two weapons limit and they'd have to retool the weapon/ammo/etc placement to balance it out....this takes time and money which they either don't have(due to screaming fans) or want to give up.

I agree a bit about the ego though, but again this is the demo.....it might be improved or not in the full game.

Also as I said above demos are meant to be linear......cuz they're demos. Wait for the full game and I bet my hat the levels are less linear.

And i'm not talking about keycards. Map design, my friend, map design.

Keycards is part of the map design ie locked doors blocking progress.

True that. But as You've noticed, a part of the map design, now look at the rest. See the difference?:)

Again, this is a demo.....demos are mainly linear by nature.....doesn't mean the full game will be.

The game has been in development for 12+ years, if they can't figure out weapon placement in that time then they need to quit making games. Not to mention the weapon limit was an obvious attempt to make it appeal with the Halo demographic (the graphics powering the game look like a game from when the Halo series was the go to FPS for the console guys) as was the autoaim which is turned on by default.

Demos are not supposed to be linear. The Duke 3D demo had the entire first act which was 1/4 of the game and had much much variation in the level design. Avernum 6 has a demo that throws you into this massive game. Crysis had a bit of a linear demo but let you go about the objectives differently instead of just beating the crap out of people. Mount & Blade gives you the entire world up to a certain level. Guild Wars gives you the entire game for a week until you hit a certain level I believe. World of Warcraft gives you the entire game until a certain level. The Witcher demo gives you the entire first act (out of 6) I believe. I can go on about demos in games not being linear because what you said is a bullshit excuse and you know it.

No, it doesn't. But it raises doubts. And i'm in doubt now. If i haven't played the demo, i'd probably be more interested in the game, than i am now. I'm not sure, if that's what demos are supposed to do nowdays.;)

Actually yes most demos are linear bits and pieces of levels one after another....that's just how it is. Devs do this to showcase just enough to allow you to see how the game plays without showing you too much(to either prevent spoilers or even prevent people from seeing a flaw in a game in some cases, sadly.).

I just urge you to watch gameplay reviews when it's released and then judge accordingly...seem fair?

I think that's where the demo failed for me, i guess.

Sure, but i don't think that the things stated in my first post will change.;)
