Dr.M. has stolen our marketing plans, taken our game masters, absconded with our video trailers, and pilfered our contracts! Coala suggests that we should track down the evil Dr., but how in the world can we do that? We know that he has our "Get HUGE" formula, and we suspect that Dr. M. is going to the headquarters of our next publisher--and we know it's one of the five we've already mentioned in our CDP Days Conference this Spring. One of our clever developer guys pointed out that the only way that Dr. M. could have found GOG's secret headquarters (as opposed to our regular, non-secret one) would be to have put a tracking device somewhere. We've tracked Dr. M's tracker (ha! Take that, evil!) and we're plotting his location on a world map with each of our possible upcoming publishers' locations in them. Keep tuned for more updates as we triangulate on the signal and try to track down...the DASTARDLY DR. M.!

the mysterious Dr. M. made his appearance was way back in September, when we re-launched and moved the service out from the beta. Now, with the big announcement quickly approaching, it seems that Dr. M. has come out of the shadow once again. What's he up to this time? Find out more in the tale of great horror, entitled "Dr. M. & The Dastardly Doom". What horrors await? What grim future is coming to GOG.com?

We'll be posting the next pages of the comic in the next days so stay tuned to this news post as the story will reveal more info on Dr. M. and the secret briefcase!

arusaku: Plus, would Lucasarts truly be the biggest announcement ever for GOG?
avatar
Taleroth: 6 of those on the top 10 list for wanted are Lucasarts. Only 3 are EA.

2 of EA's 3 (well, the franchise that comprises them) have been hinted as not being part of the announcement.
Again, I understand that it is most likely Lucasarts and welcome it very much so, since I want many of the games on the wishlist along with other classic Lucasarts games (hell I got my start on Jedi Knight Multiplayer on 56k modems).

I was merely speaking from a point of what would help GOG the most from an industry or business standpoint. Granted if it was EA (which again it most likely isn't), then I would want Lucasarts in the fall for sure.

Just wanted to clarify. Either way, happy to be a GOGer.

doowopman: Well, I'm not taking it as gospel, but that is certainly eye opening. Can't wait for tomorrow! :)
Sounds interesting. But i would rather see System Shock and old FIFA/Madden/NHL games rather than Ultima... sorry, it's just me.

You also spoke about big announcements. Clearing out half their most demanded games seems like a very big announcement.

As for a shake up, GoG already has Activision. EA and Activision are practically the same in the public eye. If Activision wasn't a shakeup, nothing will be.

We could still get EA. EnigmaticT could have been misleading about System Shock. Or he couldn't have been. I just question the reasoning.

That's something I have never understood. Why would you want older versions of sports games with outdated players and stats? While some yearly updates are not as good as previous ones people buy them to get the latest players, kits, stadiums etc. I may have a soft spot for Championship Manager 92 but would I play it rather than Football Manager 2011? Not a chance other than a bit of nostalgia.

I'm pretty sure it was.

arusaku: Why I am hopeful it is EA and not Lucasarts:

Having EA onboard at GOG, would pretty much shake up the industry and show all of the publishers out there that GOG is indeed a viable, safe (from a business perspective) and worthwhile investment in terms of their back catalogs and other materials.

Lucasarts would be a great addition to GOG, but EA would be earth shattering in my opinion and totally allow GOG to have a much easier time when negotiating with other publishers.

I probably am taking way too much out of all of the various things GOG has done the past week or so.. But, the fact they keep mentioning that it is a "HUGE" and "SUPER GROWTH FORMULA", points more so to the fact that EA would be coming on board then Lucasarts.

Plus, would Lucasarts truly be the biggest announcement ever for GOG? Debatable, since a lot of their catalog is already on competing sites. Now, EA on the other hand would be the publisher which would make others go... "They got EA? WHAT?!"

Again just my two cents. I will be happy if it is EA or Lucasarts.

It is a great time to be a GOGer. It is a bad time to be a GOGer's wallet.
It's really interesting what you say, if EA joins GOG, the others will follow. Every company asks what the partners are, to get a feeling how big something is and they will think about it if EA joins, "If EA joins, then there is something interesting to get for us too" also if EA joins, GOG will build up a sort of confidence because of the big publishers the have, so that the other publishers will get the feeling that Gog.com is not a little site anymore but a moneymaker for them too. If EA will join, the other publishers will join too, hopefully.

If Gog.com grows so fast that in a few years the have almost every publisher, o my, then some awesome things will happen.

Points taken. +1

And true Activision was a big shakeup. But, I think that EA and LA would be bigger.

Again, just my two cents.
If it is indeed EA, I wish GOG contacted me about Crusader extras and whatnot. :\

Because the new ones just suck?

Why would you want to play OLD GAMES IN GENERAL? They all have outdated graphics, game mechanics, frustrating interface, etc etc.

I remember when I was a kid and playing Fifa 99 on my PC - I would love to refresh that memory

Also, I do remember how good Fifa 2000 and Euro 2000 were as ARCADE games. They had their unique style, just like Korea-Japan game, and it was FUN to play.

And I don't care about outdated squads.

They still can. It's not like they haven't added extras to existing games before.

I assure you you are in a small minority there. I can certainly see old Fifa and Madden games being a curiosity but nothing more. Interesting to see how the series developed and whatnot but games to sell for real money on GOG? Nah.

I want Sensible World of Soccer, and I don't care how outdated it is.

lol SWOS is a bad example, that never had real players.
I said, maybe it's just me. Each of these old games have something that newer ones doesn't.

Fifa 99 - good simulation at a time, great memories
Fifa 2000 - ability to play retro style with teams from '74 , '78 '82 and great arcade gamestyle
Fifa World Cup 2002 - unique graphic style, some fun aditions like "comet shot" etc etc.

I could go on and on. And I may asure you, there are lot of FIFA games fans, who would gladely pay to have them all. Even just to have them, DRM-free.

It had. National and club teams.

And people played the game WITHOUT real players? I'm shocked. Because playing soccer games is all about real players, as you seem to try to convince us.
