Dr.M. has stolen our marketing plans, taken our game masters, absconded with our video trailers, and pilfered our contracts! Coala suggests that we should track down the evil Dr., but how in the world can we do that? We know that he has our "Get HUGE" formula, and we suspect that Dr. M. is going to the headquarters of our next publisher--and we know it's one of the five we've already mentioned in our CDP Days Conference this Spring. One of our clever developer guys pointed out that the only way that Dr. M. could have found GOG's secret headquarters (as opposed to our regular, non-secret one) would be to have put a tracking device somewhere. We've tracked Dr. M's tracker (ha! Take that, evil!) and we're plotting his location on a world map with each of our possible upcoming publishers' locations in them. Keep tuned for more updates as we triangulate on the signal and try to track down...the DASTARDLY DR. M.!

the mysterious Dr. M. made his appearance was way back in September, when we re-launched and moved the service out from the beta. Now, with the big announcement quickly approaching, it seems that Dr. M. has come out of the shadow once again. What's he up to this time? Find out more in the tale of great horror, entitled "Dr. M. & The Dastardly Doom". What horrors await? What grim future is coming to GOG.com?

We'll be posting the next pages of the comic in the next days so stay tuned to this news post as the story will reveal more info on Dr. M. and the secret briefcase!

Tecmo Bowl.

That is all.

keeveek: And people played the game WITHOUT real players? I'm shocked. Because playing soccer games is all about real players, as you seem to try to convince us.
No I said part of the reason people pay for new FIFA's is the updates. I'm not trying to convince you of anything, you like FIFA and more power to you. I'm simply trying to show why games like Ultima are more attractive than having FIFA99, FIFA00, FIFA01, FIFA World Cup etc.

I'm not convinced there are more fans of Ultima games now than FIFA games. But you may be right about most of them, playing just the new games, and don't care about old ones.

But people MOSTLY don't care about old games, and are buying new instead. But GOG still exists, and seems to be doing well.

Delixe: That's something I have never understood. Why would you want older versions of sports games with outdated players and stats? While some yearly updates are not as good as previous ones people buy them to get the latest players, kits, stadiums etc. I may have a soft spot for Championship Manager 92 but would I play it rather than Football Manager 2011? Not a chance other than a bit of nostalgia.

*Fond memories of signing Roy Keane from Nottingham Forest*
It's about the gameplay. Talking about SWOS there is still a very actiive community who play tournaments. I'm very sure you can still today download actual roosters somewhere. There was an editor and it was very popular at this time to edit all the stuff and share with your friends. Later you could download it from the internet, so missing original names wasn't really a problem.

Also I have very good memories of Fifa International Soccer, which had an isometric view and is not comparable with the newer games. At this time EA also didn't had the rights for original players, but the game was real fun to play. Another example is the On the ball series from Ascaron. If you ask someone here in germany about the best football manager ever, many will answer Anstoss 3. The games had humor, a very good stadium management and many other options, but it was not overloaded. Todays managers try to be so serious and so complex, that's sometimes really frustrating. In the old days I played with a friend (hotseat multiplayer) a whole season on one saturday (parallel listening football on the radio). Today I need the whole weekend alone for a season preparation. It's nice to have so many options and the graphics are amazing, but sometimes I really wish the gameplay would go back to the basics.

But you're also right: Today releases don't differ very much. We don't need Fifa05 and Fifa 06 here when there is a very similar Fifa 11. I don't want to see the whole series here, but I'm sure you will find in every series some very unique games. As example, an old fellow student and icehockey fan said someday ago that he still prefers to play NHL95, because it's more fun to play for him.

I hope i wasn't too harsh to you, if you feel so sorry for that. This topic makes me really a little bit sad. Many good memories with this old games, which you can't get with todays simulation or manager games. Good old days and so good old games for me.

Edit: Sorry for so many typos and other mistakes, I will try to correct them. I'm not very good in writing long english texts, especially on the flow.

Hardly a victory. EA was still selling all of it within the past couple of years.
Weren't older C&C games given out for free not too long ago? As sort of a promotion for the newest release?
Now that you mention it, I recall that too. About C&C 1.

that doesnt stop them from being good games though
Yeah, Command & Conquer 1, 2 and Red Alert were made freeware a while ago to promote the release of C&C 3 and Red Alert 3, respectively.
