I don't think you get Doom 3 with it, since they still have it up for sale, you just have to pay $100 for the id pack to get it.

If someone here who bought BFG Edition and didn't have the original wants to clear that up, I'd be interested to know... As far as I know, You get the Id Tech 5 version with ROE, and the XBLA censored versions of DOOM 1 and 2.

Really, it hurts my head trying to figure out why they did that to the original, Final Doom and Master levels.

EDIT: Also, I don't see the Id pack, either. As of right now, there's no way at all to buy the original Doom 3 here. Though that might be some regional restrictions at work again.

It's quite possible that they just fear the direct competition that is modding scene, and rightly so. I'm gonna get a Doom 3 crack and back the game up, just in case.

Do you own the original Doom 3 on disc?

I'm assuming anyone who bought the original versions on Steam still has them, so I don't see a huuuuuuge deal there with them removing them for now. I mean it's stupid and insulting but anyone interested in the originals surely owns them by now, right?

That was my impression. Doom 3 came out before the Xbox360 and had to be severely squeezed to fit on the original Xbox. I see this as a more faithful release of the PC Doom 3 for consoles in anticipation of Doom 4. The PC version is just along for the ride.
Do not attribute to malice what could just as easily be explained by stupidity. If Zenimax was worried about competition they would never have agreed to open source Doom 3 a year or two ago.

It's more about the fact that this could pretty much kill the modding scene. I know of a few people who bought Doom 3 recently because of mods - but BFG edition just won't support them.

I don't, actually. I was thinking of grabbing the Doom pack eventually when it goes on sale, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I'll probably pick this up anyway when it's cheap and acquire the originals from somewhere else, so I'm not terribly bothered by it, but it still is a weird decision.

What happened year or two ago happened year or two ago. Stupidity is an easy explanation, but removing Doom 3 from catalogue requires more effort than just leaving it lying around.

Quite honestly, I was mostly interested in Doom 3 because of the Dark Mod, but that's apparently going standalone anyway.
