Also, an oldie but a goodie.
Ah yes, the opt out village. That really caught on... fire. Shame really.

Twilight: You can do all this with facebook. Circles is a copy of friend lists, Hangout is a limited functionality facebook group.
avatar
keeveek: Is not, and is not.

Of course, you may set some groups for your friends, but choosing who can see that one particular photo of you and who can't is not as easy as it looks on Google+

Hangouts is for multiple video conversation among friends, and not for collecting people who share interests with you.
That's what I'm saying... these things are possible on facebook, but the interface is so clunky, that it's practically impossible.

And Hangouts really remind me of groups in one way. You also have a link that you have to click to enter a common chat room. It just doesn't have webcams. But since it is so easy to start a conversation and it goes public, it seems more useful on that google thing :)
I hate Google. I really hate them. Partly because they are so good at development, partly because of their resources, but mainly because they can do such creepy stuff, yet people think that they're their best friends. You can trust google, their mantra is "Don't be evil".

Sorry everyone. It's just a thread about Google requires me to say evil at least twice and to restate my hatred of them.

Yeah, it's so evil to provide so many services for free...

I bet you use 2-3 google applications or services every day and you enjoy them.

Navagon: It could be interesting to see a social networking behemoth owned by company that is decidedly less evil. But it's Google, so I doubt that your information will be any safer even if it's not being sold on by the very cunts you're entrusting it to.

It's certainly better than their previous idea of putting all security conscious/paranoid people on that game show, "The Moving Swiftly Man".

I'll take that bet. Name some I use.

Free hint, I use Bing Maps, Bing search, Yahoo mail, Amazon for shopping.

Miss, Miss, and Miss.

Definitely not Google books. That's one of their most evil adventures. They attempted to acquire the copyright to all orphaned works.

I agree. But people love google books, because thay want easy access to books that are hardly accessible in libraries. Two sides of a medal.

I'm not anti-Google (I do eye them a little suspiciously sometimes, though), and prefer the search results of Google to that of Bing, but let's be fair... We all used inferior performing search engines/tools before either of these tools were around, and got by fine. It's really not that big a deal if wpegg chooses to exercise freedom of choice and use another service(s).

Of course it's not. For me, using worse search engines, worse, less detailed maps just because you don't like the company is strange. And nothing else.

I use OpenStreetMap because I like to see only 10% of the streets.
