Yes it does. I hate social networking :D. I also have friends who hang out on facebook while out for a beer. Really annoying.
I find it more tragically amusing than annoying. I'm constantly amazed at how many people seem to think they can't get along without being constantly connected to social media. And the crap they post on it? It boggles the mind.
I cycle a lot. Last week a woman who was jay-walking walked straight in front of me. I don't Jay-walkers, I do it my self, it's perfectly legal where I come from. But I believe you have to do it responsibly. And this woman had her nose up against an Ipad. I don't think she had a clue I was there. It was sheer luck I didn't run into her. Fool.

I regards to what jamyskis said: I feel for you. As a rabid cinephile the idea of people constantly cheeking facebook while your trying to what a film with them sounds to me as bad as people talking loudly at the cinema. Not just failing to appreciate what they're seeing but distracting and annoying for all others.

I have seen something similar twice in one week. Some poor police cyclist ran over two people in 3 days because they walked off a street corner staring at their phone. Poor guy haha.
Hate all that shit. The whole social media circus has always been highly annoying to me with people posting about all their inane daily activities nobody could and (especially) should care about, but once it exploded onto mobiles it just rose to an even more ridiculous level. Yet I always get a good chuckle out of this video. *le sigh* Dumb people.

I have no use for a smart phone, and unless I'd ever need one for a job, which is highly unlikely at this point, I don't expect of ever buying one. No crappy games or always texting/facebooking for me, thank you very much. That said, I can see how some other functions might be useful to some like quickly looking up directions, checking opening hours to a specific store you may want to check on, etc.. i.e. actual useful stuff.

On the other hand, a lot of people do seem to have become way too reliant on all this tech wherever they go. I just do my research before I head out of the house, which usually doesn't take more than a few minutes, so I still don't see an absolute need for all that.

In any case, while I have a crappy ole six-year-old Nokia phone, which I've managed to drop on accident a number of times, it still works like a champ and it does all I need it to do: making/receiving calls and voice mail. Hell, most of the time I don't even have it on me when I'm not at home. I don't want to be constantly bothered by others about non-trivial things. I just check my messages when I get back home. Sure, at that point one might ask why I don't just have a landline. Well, it'd be tricky in my current living situation, and it's easier for me to keep my private line that way especially with me moving so often (not exactly my preference). That and it does come in handy on occasion when I do take it with me on the go.

You know damn well we get that much snow, you live north of me! I would imagine you get a lot more.
I'm in Halifax, being on the coast it tends to get rather wet. But yeah, it can sure come!

Yeah, you are south of me. I stand corrected.

Smannesman: I dislike mobile phones, being reachable everywhere at any time is not a great thing.
Git off my lawn you young whippersnappers!
This. If work didn't force me to have one (and they pay for it) I would not carry a cell phone. I also hate that everyone has their face glued to it, for games, txt'ing, web, etc... put the damn thing down every now and again for pete's sake
DOWN WITH THE MACHINES!!! LET THE JIHAD COME!! MUAD'DIB!!!MUAD'DIB!!!MUAD'DIB!!!

Ehem. Yeah, it is annoying, especially when people do this in bars/clubs of all things.
My girl sometimes stares at her phone too much, but not as bad as some younger people. It's funny to go out to eat and see people staring at their phones rather than talking.

Oh, I just call it crappy because it kind of is in comparison, but I have absolutely no problem with it. In fact, at one point a few years back I did buy a much fancier Nokia (not smart) phone, but ended up returning it - thankfully I got a full refund on it, too - because its reception was so much worse it boggled my mind. Didn't bother too look for any others since. *shrug*

If it ain't broke, don't replace it. ;)

I dig you the most darthspudius, you know that, so with all due respect, fuck the phone.

Elmofongo: I do not have a smartphone and I do not use facebook or twitter :P

Fucking phones man and they are also making PC and Laptops irrelevent :(
Not really. Phones will never take over fully from the PC market. Can I get a phone with an 3.4 GHz CPU, 16GB of RAM and 2GB graphics card? This is just some crazy story made by the phone companies.
I don't have anyone to be annoyed at.
