Tormentfan: In your opinion, which is fine for you to have, but it doesn't change mine or my ability to have one either.
I never said you can't have your opinion. I just didn't understand it and I wanted you to explain it further because maybe I could agree with it. Now that you have explained it , I still don't agree that it's some kind of "dick move". So yeah agree to disagree

Fair enough.

bevinator: I don't like how much space the wishlist box takes up on the Community page. It's got a button to minimize it, but it doesn't stay minimized after a refresh. Honestly I'd much rather see the threads I'm watching than see what's hot on the wishlist this week. If it stayed minimized that'd be fine. And news posts don't show anymore unless you follow the link from the frontpage. Plus the top bar is awful, of course. Other than that everything seems fine.
It is a little big, or perhaps it would just be better if it was under the forum topics you've posted in. The wishlist was always a bit of a pain to get to, but I don't know that it needs to be this easy. Overall its fine.

My only real criticism is an old one. With almost 400 games now, can we not get them tiled on the screen instead of a long list? The website has been clean an highly functional, but that one part always seemed odd.

Tormentfan: The catalogue now defaults to bestseller list... I'm not interested in what everyone else is buying, and trying to put some influence on us that way is just a dick move.

So now instead of the site being better for useability they've added and extra click and refresh wait for me.

It's a pretty piss poor job at making someing 'new and better'.

If this is gog's best effort they should just have left the site alone, the things that needed improved haven't been touched and the stuff they should have left alone has been fucked around with. Christ on a bike.
The whole site is about social media integration, in that context of course it matters what most folks are buying. Sure, it's not useful for you (or me for that matter), but it's hardly a "dick move", it's actually good design, provided the tenet of the redesign was to better integrate sharing and social media (and clearly it was and GOG.com has been going in this direction for some time).

So for 'social integration' read bigger sales push?

Edit, the site has gone from a neutral stance to a pro push stance.

Well, you know, they "are" a storefront for selling video games...

That has suddenly upped their push by use of peer presure. What do you think the unspoken indication of bestseller lists are.. it's not about providing information, it's about making you think you are missing out.

Which you actually might be... dude, they're a storefront, their purpose is to sell things. The social media tie-ins and the like are to further that goal in a way that is not necessarily antithetical to your well-being. Making sure you get the right product "for you" is actually good business. That's why sites allow user reviews and things like social media tie-ins, because they increase sales AND increase customer satisfaction.
it still needs a "preview post" button.

They've always been a store. I don't like the sudden switch of emphasis.

I have two friends in advertising who laugh at these tactics, I never used to spot it, but once it's been pointed out it's everywhere. This is excatly the mindset they want to push at people. It's no better than school yard peer presure.

How is showing customers a bestseller list peer pressure? When you walk into a bookstore and see a display of their bestselling books, do you feel pressure to buy them?
Definitely a megalike. Loved what they have done with it so far :)

Seriously, I have to explain this again, you can't read what I've written previously?

It's a sales tactic, it's not about the info, it's to introduce the thought that you're missing out and everyone knows something you don't... It's a play on your insecurities, if you can walk past it, then fine, but you can absolutley guarantee other's will be suckered in.

It's just one thing on a long list of everyday push, push, push.

It's not even that it's being provided as 'new' information, it's always been there, but it now defaults to it with no way to set and save a preference, which also makes the list less user friendly.. so in the end, gog's push for more profit results in less convienient functionality.

I thought gog's point of the overhaul was to make the site better... this isn't making it better, just easier to push things.

Tbh I'm not interested if you think I'm wrong, that's you're opinion that's not backed up with anything.. I however KNOW that this tactic just boils down to pro activelty pushing products as opposed to providing a range for the customer to choose, so regardless of how you feel about my comments, like them or not, you're not in a position to tell me I'm wrong.

Agreed on the tiles, as is when you get near middle and past the gog mixes it just seems like a lot of space is being wasted that needs to be filled.

I really don't see what the problem is with the best sellers list. Its easy to ignore it and move on your way
