lowyhong: Hell no, real men play the game without killing or knocking anyone out, or alerting the guards. ;) The decisions you make here are much more satisfying because of the way the game keeps track of them for you. I find this makes the completion of a mission in the way that I'd intended so much more fulfilling.
I can't wait to do a replay only to KO in absolutely necessary situations but for the most part sneak through everything.
I don't know, I enjoyed going on killing sprees. The game doesn't really encourage ghosting because there isn't ultimate reward for that - so I will get low chaos, so what? This game gives the player many ways to deal with enemies and they're all satisfactory, either you choke them or blow up with grenades. And this is coming from gamer who considers Thief The Dark Project second best game ever after Deus Ex lol

I agree, that's why I chose to play High Chaos first time and experiment with the powers altough I actually miss how little I used them.

Well the fact that the plot basically punishes you for killing people is a pretty big reason to ghost (or at least find nonlethal ways of dispatching guards).

And what's the ultimate reward for killing everyone? I find ghosting to be far more satisfying, especially when my main score list is filled with 0's and ticks. Humiliating Daud by stealing his wallet in plain sight, just because I can; sparing the lives of pesky but innocent guards, just because I can; et cetera.

You can play it the high chaos way if that's the way you want to proceed, but that doesn't mean the game doesn't encourage other alternatives, in its own small ways (score sheet, challenging oneself). For giving the player so many viable choices, including the ability to really ghost a la Thief, I applaud them. Good to see them taking all these possibilities into consideration.

That only changes the ending video which is like 1 min short, not motivating enough for me. I saw the good ending on youtube anyway. I didn't try to kill everyone - I only went psycho when I got spotted by guards. But I wanted to kill Daud for throwing my stuff away but I wasn't fast enough - you know what happened after a few seconds hehe

No, the last level has changes from the weather to the circumstances of a few of the main characters.. And I felt the whole last level was more interesting with having a HIGHER chaos rating...

Just the fact that they gave you nonlethal ways of carrying out assassinations is pretty awesome. An assassination game you can complete without killing anyone. O_o

It also changes other stuff. A lot throughout the game, I gather (how many rats there are, how many weepers there are, how dangerous levels are). And I know that Samuel treats you differently if you go berzerk, and I believe certain characters will survive/die based on your actions as well. So it's not just the ending.

I absolutely love the fact that you can kill the Lord Regent right off the bat before he even goes into his bedroom. Is it possible to rig the Wall of Light so that he gets electrocuted on his way in?

this is another one that i'm sure i'll get...once it goes down in price of course. i made the mistake of buying dragons dogma at full price, and sure enough i ended up playing it for an hour and then putting it aside for another game in my backlog. i could probably get it now for 20 dollars less if i wanted.

lowyhong: SPOILERS
I'll bet it is possible, which would be absolutely hilarious. Out of curiosity, what's the nonlethal way of killing him, if you know?

SPOILER

You sneak into his room, grab a recording of himself loudly proclaiming that he killed Jessamine, and then sneak up into the broadcast chamber to play it. The guards will immediately arrest him, which is pretty cool. Oh and if you do this, when Havelock and co. take over, they'll announce later in the game (when you return to the Hounds Pits) that he's going to be shipped to Coldridge Prison later that day :D

Well given that you can't finish mission 2 without at least knocking out somebody then real men will continue playing the game forever without ever finishing it ;)

More seriously, I actually think that not knocking anyone actually makes the game easier, it's a lot harder to knock everybody out and not get detected, if you just avoid guards then you can easily blink your way around without too much issue.

lowyhong: MORE SPOILERS
Neat. I plan on doing a more "moral" playthrough some day soon, and I might try doing a complete "nonlethal ghosting" runthrough. Of course that would deprive me of most of the game's awesome mechanics, but still... it might be fun.

True hah. Btw while experimenting with the game, I realized knocking guards out also changes the others' patrolling routes.

Trust me man, it's a lot more intense. Also, there's a great sense of satisfaction seeing a perfectly clean score sheet.
