orcishgamer: For a game with such interesting mechanics it commits the cardinal sin of being pretty dull for the first 3 hours. The betrayal (oh come on, like that wasn't obvious from the trailers) didn't have any sense of sting, they failed to convey very much emotion at all, even when you get stabbed with a hot poker. The game doesn't suck or anything, but it should NOT win high review scores, either. It certainly doesn't deserve a lot of praise. Wait for a sale.
lowyhong: Agreed. It's actually a pretty decent game, good for what it is, but to me it's a jack of all trades and a master of none. Both combat and stealth are too simplistic, and are a huge step back from what certain games have actually done before. The only praises I really have for the game are the atmosphere, controls and certain aspects of the visuals, like lighting. It's a shame because there's a lot of untapped potential.
I can imagine people posting most of the same exact things about Deus ex Invisble War when it came out. (BTW, that got very high critical reviews at least sit seems from wikipedia) BTW, I'm saying this even with Deus Ex 2 as being one of my favorite games.
The only thing I truly dislike about the Dishonored are the weepers though. I hate vomiting. Everything else abbot the game is good or I don't mind or is average/decent. So I'm still happy with the game. (I rented Dishonored I don't think it is truly worth paying 60 dollars for... I may in the future buy it in the bargain bin, like what i did with Deus Ex invisible War. I think I originally rented it and then bought it for four dollars preowned. )
