marcusmaximus: Assasin's Creed is a huge open world but incredibly linear missions and ways to do the various objectives in the games. Dishnored is a set of missions but each mission gives far more freedom of how you go about doing the objectives. In Assian's creed you have this huge vast city but only really one "right" way to get to and take out a target. While In Dishonored you have pretty large distinct levels but various ways of getting in and out of areas and various ways of taking out a target.

jefequeso: Basically, yeah. That's why I say it's closer to Hitman than AC.
It actually sounds a lot like Thief ...

Most of the gameplay feels like Thief as seen through the lens of Dark Messiah, but the assassinations themselves (and your options for accomplishing them) are more like something out of Hitman. That's what I was talking about, since the only reason people are comparing it to Assassin's Creed is that both games are about assassinating people.

lettmon: A real successor to Thief and Deus Ex has finally come. Your opinions about it? Freedom of choice and endless exploration is fantastic in this game \o/ Only thing I don't like is that Corvo is voiceless. And I'm not big fan of the visual style either but at least the game world doesn't feel empty and dead like in Half-Life 2 although there is some HL2 in the air thanks to same art director.

F4LL0UT: I'm not following the game very closely but yeah, it sounds like it's among the most interesting ones currently in development although I'm kinda having a déja vu from five years ago when there was this huge hype for BioShock - this feeling really keeps me from getting excited at all.
For a game with such interesting mechanics it commits the cardinal sin of being pretty dull for the first 3 hours. The betrayal (oh come on, like that wasn't obvious from the trailers) didn't have any sense of sting, they failed to convey very much emotion at all, even when you get stabbed with a hot poker.

The game doesn't suck or anything, but it should NOT win high review scores, either. It certainly doesn't deserve a lot of praise. Wait for a sale.

I did the first few targets and the story stays relatively bland so far but the gameplay is very good. But a game like this would have been truly amazing with a bit more interesting narrative rather than being a fun game.
Been eyeing this for a while, but to be honest, I have such a huge backlog at present, including recent major full price titles, that spending €50 on it would be a shame.

Shouldn't it have been called Dishonoured though in the UK?

Agreed. It's actually a pretty decent game, good for what it is, but to me it's a jack of all trades and a master of none. Both combat and stealth are too simplistic, and are a huge step back from what certain games have actually done before. The only praises I really have for the game are the atmosphere, controls and certain aspects of the visuals, like lighting. It's a shame because there's a lot of untapped potential.

I can imagine people posting most of the same exact things about Deus ex Invisble War when it came out. (BTW, that got very high critical reviews at least sit seems from wikipedia) BTW, I'm saying this even with Deus Ex 2 as being one of my favorite games.

The only thing I truly dislike about the Dishonored are the weepers though. I hate vomiting. Everything else abbot the game is good or I don't mind or is average/decent. So I'm still happy with the game. (I rented Dishonored I don't think it is truly worth paying 60 dollars for... I may in the future buy it in the bargain bin, like what i did with Deus Ex invisible War. I think I originally rented it and then bought it for four dollars preowned. )

Well I hated Deus Ex IW (and Bioshock) on equal measures, so make what you will of that :P

See, I don't get this. If you hate those two games then I feel that one must hate most games that come out. Cause they are still radically better than most games to me... Deus Ex 2 even with its tiny areas still was way more fun to play than most games and even with those restrictions I felt I had more freedom than in the various huge open world games that end up with having only one way through most of the actual levels.

Bioshock was perhaps even too easy for me. I even played it on hard on my replay.

(I never played either System Shock game and i have terrible timing and suck at games so I don't mind in a sense the easier versions of the older classics)

Invisible War wasn't very good as a Deus Ex successor and had terrible endings. Bioshock was downright not very good. Very pretty and very boring, I really don't get games like that.

In this day and age perhaps the heavy weights could consider having actual writers write their shit, because it shows when someone who doesn't know what the fuck they're doing tries it.
I'm happy to see that people here aren't being as over the top complimentary as the average reviewer seems to be for this game.

Chysis 2 I think had actual writers and was absolutely terrible story wise from what I remember. The writing in itself in Dishonored though isn't terrible, to me, I think they just rushed through it. There are so few lines from most of the characters it would be hard I think to have a good story in the game. I also think writing for a video game is very different than a regular game. (but I'm still relatively early on, taking my time through the game.)
