Ace of Spades was a wee bit of a turd. It started as a free to play shooter where the terrain was made up of blocks and you could manipulate it a-la Minecraft. Then it was sold to another dev, who made it completely unplayable, then slapped a $10 price tag on it. I guess that'll teach me to check if a formerly free to play game has been royally ass fucked before I buy it.

Single player DLC that's already installed and only requires activation is a major server drain? If hen simply remove the need to activate it. That's the reasonable solution.

Heh. It's sad to think that they might actually try and use that as an excuse. They've got away with it for so long that they probably think that even when it's this blatant they can still fool people.

But may I ask why having go into a web browser to play the game makes more at risk of being killed than just shutting down the online server for their games like they did with their sports games (and Sims 2 this month)

On a side note: I am surprised EA and Activision has not shut off the servers for Call of Duty 1 and up and Battlefield 2 and up? How long until those games online play is gone?

Unfortunately sometimes that (system dies) can happen quite fast. My first Playstation got broken quite fast even though I handled it with care. Suddenly its CD-ROM drive just ceased to work. And my big brother was just asking the other day whether Wii-U is fully backwards compatible with their earlier Wii which got broken, leaving them with a bunch of unplayable Wii games.

I took care of my Playstation problem by buying a PS2 which thankfully was backwards compatible. Unfortunately that seems to be the end of the line now, as I just read the other day that the manufacturing of PS2 has ceased for good now, ie. you apparently can buy them used from now on. And PS3 can't run my PS One (nor PS2?) games.

Interestingly, it seems it might be the PC which is the savior again, as it apparently has fully working PS One emulators, and maybe even PS2 emulators.

And yeah, I consider digital DRM-free games much more future-proof solution than physical games, even if my physical games (both on consoles and PC) seem to have easily outlived the systems they were originally bought for. E.g. all my original Playstation games seem to be still working.

This way they can kill the single player too. You need to go to the website even to play the campaign. I'd imagine that goes for the expansions too.

I think the reason they haven't shut those games down is because they're still selling and are probably popular enough to cause an uproar if they were shut down.

Plus, I'm not aware of Activision going anywhere near as far with shutting down servers as EA have. Despite my reservations regarding their more controlling approach adopted since MW2 they haven't done more than kill off mods to make their over-priced map packs more palatable.

Now I am going off topic and show off my dickish side when I say this:

All this shit that happened to Battlefield, Call of Duty, and Medal of Honor makes me worry for the Arma games...because what if Arma dumbs down to just a Battlefield clone and attracts the Multiplayer audiance with Mod support.

The rest of the game is very good.

I thought Max Payne 3 was really awesome. I liked the other two too (although first is the least awesome)
