Instead of starting in the same world each time, in Din’s Curse, you start in a new town that has different problems than any other town. It doesn’t stop there, though; these quests aren’t static. If you don’t do anything about them, they will cause other trouble. For example, let’s say the boss Nightweaver has taken over level 5 of Frantic Pit. Nightweaver isn’t just going to sit there doing nothing waiting for you. He might cause a Saurian uprising, build an earthquake machine, send an assassin into town to try to kill the townspeople or do one of many other possible things. Other monsters can even impact the quests. In our boss example, Earthstomper might show up and kill Nightweaver to take over the dungeon.

No matter how you look at that, it just smells like a winning formula all around.

Depths of Peril is great. I mean, it has its flaws, and the strategy novelty wears off after a while, but its still far more innovative than a lot of other hack n slashers out there IMO. And Steven is a really good guy - he helped me contact the Impulse folks to add Depths of Peril to my account, even though I bought DoP from BMTMicro instead of Impulse.
It may be mentioned in the article already but its late here so I'll read it tomorrow but has he added multiplayer into this latest game?

The question wasn't asked in the interview, unless I missed it - but from the website it says single player and co-op multiplayer.

Thanks, multiplayer even if its just co-op makes the game much more intresting for me.
So, do I foresee regular get-together sessions of the GOG community in Din's Curse co-op?
Keeping an eye on this one, to see what is happening.
Soldak Games for me have dropped in the odd spot of; too good and creative to be bad, but not polished enough to be good. Feels like they're missing something and they need to go either way for me to appreciate them better.
I'm playing the Beta. It feels a lot like Depths of Peril (minus the covenant/diplomacy thing), and general gameplay flows better - it's more "tense" too, in the sense that you never know what you'll find, and getting to town may be a lot harder than in Depths of Peril if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time. Soldak is still working on balance (I'm playing as an Ice Mage, but I see things getting quite difficult for melee characters with no area-of-effect skills), but it plays great so far.
Just preordered. In my first game, I got my butt handed to me.
The hack-n-slash part is not as polished as, say Torchlight, but it has so much more depth and replayability, and that's what makes this game awesome. It's very easy to fail quests in the game if you're not diligent.

What model do they use? I generally am very hesitant to order from random devs. Is it M&B style "Just enter your serial into the demo", will I get a download link (that won't time out), or am I going to have to make sure I archive it?
It should be available on Impulse and Steam. If you pre-order it now, you can get the installer from BMTMicro. The download link will expire in 2 months I believe, but Mr Peeler PMed me saying he can restore my purchase link should the need arise.
And then subsequently he helped me contact Impulse and requested them to load Depths of Peril into my Impulse account (ya I feel compelled to mention this over and over again).
Anyway even if they refuse to, I wouldn't mind buying another copy of Din's on Impulse just to show my support for Soldak.

You buy the game and download it from BMT Micro, if I remember correctly. I've asked Soldak and they said that you can update your Beta by using the patches available in Soldak's homepage, and you will be able to redownload the game once it goes final. The download link has an expiration date (set to 6 months for now or something like it), but you can just send an email to Soldak to get it reset if needed.
Once you have the game downloaded, it uses a serial to unlock (it's just local, though - no Internet activation required - though I guess the serial is used for multiplayer). No DRM.

Thanks. Hadn't realized that this (and Depths of Peril) were on Impulse. When possible, I really prefer to just get indie games from Impulse or Steam.
Will probably try the demo of DoP when I get home, since the diplomacy/faction amuses me. Most likely going to wait for release before grabbing Din's though.
Din's Curse sounds interesting. I considered buying it during the beta but the price was unreasonable. Kivi's Underworld suffers from the same problem.
