About Chaos Chronicles
Over 200 years ago the flourishing kingdoms of elves, dwarves and mankind were consumed by chaos.
Undead hordes lead by archwizards of the dark arts overran
the land. Only few were able to escape. The survivors build their new homes on small, secluded islands off shore.
A few years ago the Order of the Holy Flame sent its knights to lead an expedition to the mainland.
Even though the old cities lie in ruins and orcs, goblins and other creatures of evil roam the land there seems to be hope for a return to the land of their ancestors.
The big harbor town Rethgard has been purged of the undead and the inner city has been fortified to stand ground against any kind of attack.
Driven by their love for adventure the player’s party enters a boat in order to take part in rebuilding the kingdom.
Sounds like generic fantasy tripe, but WAIT! There's more!
But right from the beginning turn-based clearly was what we wanted. Everything else was worth discussing but never struck us as ideal. We all played Dragon Age (the first part of course, since the second part is just a sad joke and should not be mentioned again) which has a realtime with pause combat system. But nobody here felt comfortable with the idea of having a similar combat system in our game.

The only point during the concept development that we almost decided to prototype a realtime based combat system was when we started working on Jagged Alliance: Back in Action which was supposed to be realtime based in order to appeal to a larger audience. Fortunately there was some backlash (i.e. shitstorm) to that decision and that gave us a very strong argument to implement a turn-based combat system for Chaos Chronicles.
Prestigious Codex also has an interview with these guys. Read more here:

Sounds very fappable to me!
Well, I'm always up for turn-based RPGs. That background is horribly generic, though.
True, but they're inspired by the Gold Box games. If they can maintain a coherent plot with fun and strategic TB combat, I'll be a very happy person.
The fact they're looking at ToEE and Realms of Arkania for inspiration gives me a bit of hope.
It's quite probable that this project may ultimately prove too ambitious for such an inexperienced team, but let's hope for the best!

... Which means we now have three turn-based cRPGs to look forward to - Age of Decadence, Divinity: Original Sin and Chaos Chronicles.

EDIT:
Even more, actually! I can't believe I forgot about Dead State, Wasteland 2 and Shadowrun Returns.

By the way, RPG Codex conducted an interview with the developers merely a few days ago.

No no NO! Turn based for shooters, real time with pause for fantasy elements and knifes! Can't you do anything right?! You had one job, ONE JOB!

Well, I'm not sure I'm going to spontaneously start masturbating, but very compelling nonetheless ;)

Putting Dead State aside those games sure are looking interesting.
I've been perusing the site and there doesn't seem to be any way to pre-order. I guess the game isn't even in alpha yet?

Nope. It was just announced last month.
I've taken the liberty of adding the game to our glorious, ever-growing wishlist.
