I've had the Diablo II battle chest for probably three to four years now and I have yet to actually play Diablo until just a few days ago. College started about three years ago so that probably explains why it took me so long to get around to it. :P
I'm sad to say though that I find the game somewhat mediocre. It certainly isn't a bad game but I just don't see where the hype for this game comes from. To be fair, I haven't finished the first chapter, so perhaps I will come to find this game to be everything everyone said it would be, but for now I don't see it. I'm trying to keep an open mind about it. :)
I love the cinematics in all of Blizzards games, and Diablo didn't dissapoint. I thought the intro was just great. The real time combat is fun but seems to turn into a nightmare when I am trying to deal with many enemies or one big angry bad guy. I find it hard to switch spells and keep up with the action at times. I do have them set to the function keys but I still find myself "hunting" the right spell quite alot.
I'm on the quest where I have to kill Andrail(spelling?) in the cathedral catacombs. I can hardly get a hit on her before she gets to close. (I'm a nercomancer) She easily knocks out everyone of my summoned creatures and mercenary. (3 Mage undead, 3 undead, and 1 gollum) The whole fight pretty much turns into me and her running in circles. Now this is the last quest, at least as far as the quest window seems to imply, and I would figure that I should be high enough level to handle it since I completed everything else, but obviously I'm not. Do I really have to grind for this? Grinding is boring.
I suppose I just feel there is way to much repetitive combat and dungeon mazes than story so far.
I guess you would consider Diablo a Real-time RPG. I like rpgs such as Arcanum (which I'm also playing through at this moment) and Baldurs Gate but I can't seem to find the love for this game.
Who else feels the same way? And for those of you who are insulted by my blasphemy against Diablo, then tell me why I'm wrong. :D
