Hey guys! Just bought Deus ex 1 and thief Deadly shadows from steam (sorry GOG but u dont have em!) and have already made my way pretty far in Deus ex. And what do i think? ITS FREAKING AMAZING! so: my question is: do u believe that I will have just as fun withThief (or is it perhaps even better!!?) What are great about the games? And what about the other games in the series? (Deus ex:invisible war, thief 1 and 2). Appreciate your professional opinions GOG:s!

Not a professional opinion, but starting with DS is a bad idea.
Not only the story in Thief 1-3 is linked, first two had far better atmosphere and challenging gameplay (IMHO).
aaa i see, well hen i'll liste nto your words! are there any way I can get this games digitallly?
You bought games elsewhere? You are not welcome here anymore! :-)
You can try Invisible war but it is much worse than its prequel.
Thief is indeed great game loved by many but I never got too much into it. It is likely you will enjoy it, though.

No fondness for creeping up on target? Or hanging back in shadows, memorizing patrol routes? :P

You can get the Thief Collection from Mastertronic. It's a box but it ships internationally.

The first Thief game is on GamersGate but it's completely without support.

So, what do I think about Thief? Atmosphere. Skill. Patience. The smile you get when you finish the impossible with only the help of the shadows. And a few strategically placed water arrows, of course. If you want to play Thief, you need to get into the mood. You're Garrett. You're a thief. But not just any - you're THE thief. You clear up places most thieves wouldn't even come near, and a few master thieves would cringe at. And you have a landlord. The one kind you hate and fear more than the sheriff. But hey... not many places would allow you to build a secret compartment. And on a lean month, he wont hesitate to take the odd silver candlestick as rent money. You see, your fence has a nasty habit of being taken off to prison by whatever faction is currently in power. Apart from that, powers that be are in the habit of seeing you as their chief enemy. I mean seriously, it's not corruption and inefficiency to blame, it's those nasty thieves!

I love the series. it's one thing to play a game, but another to play it so hard that it transcends into reality and you sometimes find yourself "playing" it in the real life. Dark hallway? Don't turn on the lights, it's just fine... that way.

But, when playing with headphones on, you hear something and turn around away from monitor it's time for a small break. Seriously ;)

And playing without lights through Shalebridge Cradle can be a bit too hardcore.

I was drunk trough the whole level. I actually laughed while walking up those stairs.
I preferred Thief. One of the few games to genuinely give me the scares.

Nothing as startling as hiding in the shadows thinking yourself invisible only to be bashed from behind rather noisily and suddenly by a zombie (yes, I had to set my pride aside to admit that one).

It requires a fair amount of patience through. The stealthy route is not the quickest ;).

Btw, I liked Deux Ex: Invisible War. Don't know why people bash it so much.

I didn't. Had to quit the game.
And for a while I was getting shivers when electric lights on a street started blinking all of sudden. :P

Lot of fondness but lack of patience to let guards pass by unfortunately. :-( Then I get killed, too frustrated and game is abandoned. To be more precise I often play such games in good way, patiently, but then I decide on doing something stupid. I know it won't work and I'll get caught but I do it anyway.

Well, the save feature is there for a reason ;).

Before doing something you think will be stupid, save! It's one of the luxuries you have in games, take advantage :P.

Regarding stupid things and Thief games:

I doubt you can get much worse than some folks over at old TTLG forums. One guy made it a personal objective to knock out all guards (first level of DP, I believe) and then, going with each body on the roof, throw it down and thus kill them all in that way.

Just some creepy useless trivia :P

Invisible War wasn't a bad game, but it was a bad sequel to Deus Ex. If it didn't have the Deus Ex name no one would have thought poorly of it (or at least not nearly as many people).
