StingingVelvet: Can't wait to wake up and play more!

lowyhong: But... how...?
Good call. Can't wait to play more when I wake up tomorrow! That's better. Oh hey, that's now. Sadly I have errands to run.

Kurina: Still early on but I find myself to be enjoying it quite a bit. StingingVelvet pretty much nailed how I would describe it. Generally speaking, everything is well done, and it feels like a PC game. It took a bit of adjusting with the mouse early on to get it just right, but now things feel pretty smooth. Interface and everything is pretty solid, and it does not feel like a lazy/terrible port by any means.

Graphically, eh. The style of the world is great, no argument, but the actual graphical quality is pretty outdated in some areas. Then again, if I remember right, so was the first Deus Ex when it came out, so we can just pretend this one is staying true to the series.

What surprised me is the various amount of ways to get through the first real level (not the prologue section). I knew there would be various methods for getting through, but when I retraced my steps post-mission, I saw just how much I missed. Can't wait to see what is ahead now and what they have done with other environments.

I am only about three hours in, but enjoying it a great deal so far.
I'm glad it is good! My preorder should be coming sometime today. Your and StingingVelvet's reviews make me even more excited to play it (as did the Gamespot review I watched last night).
I wonder if it will run on a 7600GT, i know the preview did. *fingers crossed*

Sorry, I didn't mean to flaunt my geographical location so openly. :)
So someone sold you a copy of what you thought was Deus Ex: Human Revolution but when you installed it, it turned out to be a copy of Descent?

AndrewC: Nope, still the same key for killing/stunning and search/drag based on how long you press it. And you know what? It works great!
I don't know I will see that, I know that either in the press or among those who played the "unofficial demo", this was often critiqued. That it was very easy to search a body while you wanted to drag it or kill somebody you wanted to stunt.

EDIT: Maybe also they tweaked it for the final version.

StingingVelvet: I just played 3 hours of it. It's pretty awesome. The varied ways to play from the original is totally there... stealth, gunfighter, melee... all accessible and built into the level design. Story seems good, dialogue and acting are excellent. Lots to look around and see and you are rewarded with exp and items. Hacking seems really cool... I talked myself out of a fight and it seemed like I really had to pay attention to what I said to be successful, which was awesome.

Game REALLY feels like a PC game, which is awesome. Mouse pointer control on computers, keypads, newspapers and more. Typing for passwords, PERFECT menus, hotbar... it's everything they advertised on that score.

Downsides so far are meh graphics, especially in outdoor areas, and the atrocious load times. Also I get a little stutter when I zoom aim, but that might be my comp. Oh and the load times are horrible.

All in all it seems like a freaking awesome game so far. It's not the original carbon copied and given better graphics though. It has a lot of modern tweaks and changes, but keeps the core gameplay. If you can handle that you should buy it.

Can't wait to wake up and play more!
Out of interest, being as I'm considering getting Deus Ex: Human Revolution, what are you system specs as I'd like to compare them to my own (which is a 3 year old machine) just to see if I might also expect any stutter, long loads, etc.

lowyhong: I mean, Walton Simons is sort of a boss, as are Gunther Hermann and Anna Navarre, but they just soak up more damage than your average grunt.
What's notable is that they can also be killed with a single 20mm HE round. They are far from invincible when engaged at the proper time, but are unfortunately invincible everywhere else. I've tried every way possible to escape Gunther's grasp at Battery Park, and I even made it to Jock's helicopter... and this is probably my only complaint. What a pinnacle of a game.

Hmm, you have a better CPU and GPU than me, but same amount of RAM and HDD. I'm still running 64-bit Vista though. My machine is inbetween the minimum and recommended system specs given on Steam.
It seems fine so far (playing on a 360) but I liked it better when there was no cover system.

But to be fair I've never really liked playing cover-based shooters.
It requires steamworks (Form of DRM) so i'm waiting for a price drop like the Christmas Sale no matter how good or bad it is.

Setting "max pre-rendered frames" to 1 instead of the default 3 fixes any lag I experienced, similar to Mafia 2. Which is nice. It still stutters when loading areas in the background, but that's pretty common for modern games sadly.

Also, having a blast.
Also, NPC's are really sensitive about having things thrown at them.

I threw a cardboard box at a SWAT officer and everyone started shooting at me :(
Based on 4 hours of play I like it so far. The game fixes a lot of what made Deus Ex a flawed masterpiece.

-Combat feels fluid
-Voice acting is good
-Looks good enough
-There are multiple paths like one would expect
-NPCs actually have a random chance to trigger conversations (found this by reloading)
-Choices seem to have consequences

I'm a bit worried about the replayability, everything up to where I am has been on rails. Hopefully it opens up a bit more.
