captfitz: I'm with you. Except that all the retard consoleboys are going to think that the book is about a badass dante with twirling scythes who fights boob monsters in hell. And they're going to think the book sucks in comparison.
My school district (county?) requires Inferno as reading at least in excerpted form and I have no reason to believe other counties are too dissimilar. There's a chance many who play the game already are aware of the original.

Considering it's public domain, I hope they aren't fleecing folks on it.

Coelocanth: It;s the Longfellow translation, so they're not doing anything to the text, from what I understand. I don't see the big deal here. The worst that can happen is it opens up the world of classical literature to people who would otherwise not go near it.
That's pretty much what I was thinking too. It happens all the time with movie adaptations of famous literary classics, so why not with game adaptations as well?

They are re-selling the original Alhghieri text
Another idiotic ad from the utterly ignorant morons running the EA crap-company. I'd like to know then how a poem that's not easy to understand even in it's own language (it's considered to be the foundation of the Italian language, but centuries have passed since then) could appeal someone running for the nth clone from the company that makes only clones.
It's Dante ALIGHIERI, anyway :-D

As much as the game disgusts me, this edition looks awesome. God damn it, you KNOW this is going to be a really cool little collectible in 50 years. Like all these old penny dreadfuls you can find now, 50-cent or less books with really cheesy covers, folks will see these editions in used shops and be absolutely baffled.
Longfellow's probably the best translation of it, too, but...I hate Dante's poetry. Boring and strictly formulaic. Not being religious doesn't help any, neithuh. Give me some free-verse any day.

....I liked the game play of Dante's Inferno. The fact there is a book not written in "ultra elite philosopher speak" makes me very happy. Oh and if there is a bundle on Amazon I might get both ^_^ Neat Find!

Gundato: And to the guys saying "Don't judge a book by its cover": I couldn't disagree more. So many of my favorite books were found because they had pretty covers that made me go read the back.
Indeed, the whole point of modern book covers is to try and attract potential readers. The cover image should also reflect the substance of the book, otherwise it may mislead potential readers (although I'm sure that has happened).
