Aliasalpha: ooooh are there any D&D worlds that have steampunk? That stuff rocks, it'd be awesome to make clockwork fighting robots as a replacement for golems or skeleton reanimation
Eberron is kinda like that. In a nutshell (as best I understand it), the world had some advanced technologies wrought from great magic, but an epic war between Giants and Dragons brought the world into a sort of dark ages and a lot of what they could create and how to create it was lost (including how to create the Warforged, a PC race the setting introduced that are basically living automations created to fight in the war). One of the "drawbacks", if considered, is that the setting tried to make alignments more subjective (at least, I think that's the case). I don't think I can explain it very well, besides that the comments in the Monster Manual for alignments are more considered suggestions for the norm in Eberron, except where the setting specifically says otherwise (if it does).
In regards to a forum for doing a D&D campaign, I am an administrator at a general role-playing site (
NewAyenee.org) that has one forum dedicated for table-top role-playing. The role-playing side of the forums kinda died a bit due to other issues, but some people are still active every once in awhile on the general chatter sections and could be coaxed back, given the right stimulus.
EDIT: Linked a Wiki article for Eberron, since it would do better to summarize the setting than I can.
