amok: Apparently if you play single player it works just fine off line, so you do not need the authentication servers to play.
Smannesman: Really? Last time I tried it stopped working in the main menu when I was offline. Would be nice if that was fixed.
I am watching the registration site like a hawk.
edit - and it looks like someone who got the game did... darn ninjas

Wishbone: Indeed. For an alpha version of a two-person project, €15 seems like a very steep price. Especially considering that they say it's going to go up in the future.
Also, if it uses an account system like Minecraft, I'd be worried about their ability to keep the login servers accessible, given the current problems they have with even keeping the store open.
nijuu: If the game becomes anywhere as good as Minecraft is (the price doubled + from its beta/alpha) its well worth the money. Also, if it uses an account system like Minecraft, I'd be worried about their ability to keep the login servers accessible, given the current problems they have with even keeping the store open.
If Cubeworld is intended to go through the same kind of price development, it'll end at €45-€60. I doubt that's the case (I sure hope not), but I still think €15 for the alpha is setting the bar too high.

Wishbone: True, but if that's the basis of comparison, it's still more expensive. When Minecraft was first sold, I believe the price was €5. After a while this increased to €10, then increased again to €15 when it entered Beta stage, and finally €20 for the full game, which is still the price today. All through this, Minecraft's player base grew and grew, in no small part because the low initial price had generated a lot of sales, which meant that lots of people had the game and recommended it to their friends. This generated many more sales, even at the new, higher prices.
If Cubeworld is intended to go through the same kind of price development, it'll end at €45-€60. I doubt that's the case (I sure hope not), but I still think €15 for the alpha is setting the bar too high.
I'd like to add: Cube World is far more polished than Minecraft was and is. It offers far more off the bat and more is to be added. Have you looked at the homepage and what's on offer? I paid the same price for Minecraft Alpha as I did for Cubeworld Alpha (€15)If Cubeworld is intended to go through the same kind of price development, it'll end at €45-€60. Yes, and saying that it offers much more than Minecraft is silly, I think. It offers more RPG elements than Minecraft yes, that's the whole point, but more opportunities for "doing stuff"? More content and gameplay, in other words? No, certainly not. I don't think you did. I think you bought it in Beta. http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Alpha

More content and gameplay, in other words? No, certainly not. While Cubeworld seems very open, it is still limited by being a open character driven RPG at heart, with all the limitations it brings. I can not comment on how easy it is to mod yet, but I have seen no such things. It is therefore limited to constraints by the developers, and will at a point reach where it can not be done any more with.
Content wise, the only comparisons between MC and CW is that they are both open world sandboxes, and they both are voxel based, for anything else there is not really much comparisons. It may even be better to compare CW with for example Skyrim or Fallout 3.
(I have finally managed to create an account and got it confirmed, next step is managing to get the game....)

I don't think you did. I think you bought it in Beta. http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Alpha
I meant it offers more, as in the RPG elements, pets, mounts, towns, etc. right off from the bat, as in a comparison when they were first released (Alpha). But yes, it's an unfair comparison now I think about it. If they were released at the same time, then the comparison would be fair IMO I don't think you did. I think you bought it in Beta. http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Alpha
You're right, now I know I didn't purchase Minecraft Alpha. I thought I had purchased Alpha back in Sept, 2011 (it didn't say whether it was or not on my receipt) so thought it was. Thankyou for the clarification

Sure, no problem, but allow me a further clarification. I realize I may seem very critical of Cubeworld. In fact, I'm not. I think it looks excellent, and I'm looking forward to seeing what becomes of it. I'm definitely getting it at some point. I just think that the pricing is a bit too high for an alpha release, and I can't justify spending €15 on it right now. That's all.
