While in the end I will patiently wait for an August 31st release date I wish i could've upped my $1 pledge for the original Kickstarter. I was going to pledge for the game but due to finances at the time I backed only at $1, but that was just too low to upgrade later I guess when they gave the upgrade option after it all. But either way I can purchase it on or before August 31st.

I beg the question though; will we need Galaxy to run this, even though galaxy was supposed to be completely optional? Or am I getting confused as to how Galaxy works? I know you won't need it to run games after the initial download, but from what I've read I thought every game was going to be available on the website as well as Galaxy. I

I do plan on using Galaxy though!

How does the thing with the AI banter actually work ? Do you have to pick their AI personality in char creation.
I noticed there is an option for no AI too.

Going no ai makes it as a multiplayer game but since you are solo you get to decide the comments from both the characters, for the real power players I guess. There do seem that some ai options are late as there are only Loyal and random to choose from right now. Not sure if random takes on a random ai personality or if the personality is varied on each and every banter.
The banters are generally about what action to take and you can either agree or disagree with whoever goes first. Agree just ends it right there and disagree and you can try and sway their mind and whoever wins that get's their will done, ie save or kill someone. Then of course there are banters that just set personality too and merit no actual actions. After each one both characters tend to get social stats but as of now I am not aware of how they affect things.

I am a fan of divine divinity and larian from the beggining but I just couldn't play divinity 2 so far.. it just not my cup of tea, actually I prefer isometric crpgs (& arpgs). Anyway, I doubt anyone, outside larian team, would have info about future plans.

What baffles me is - how are the ones that chose GOG going to get updates until August?

I'm sure many chose GOG and what does Larian plan to do with all these people, they of course can't just give them a GOG key to shut them up and not give them any updates till the GOG version is released.

Secondly, if those GOG KS backers get updates, what else would be the reason the game isn't available to the general public here?

I suspect, or at least hope, they're working like hell to turn this situation around. Maybe lawyers had to get involved to rewrite a contract or something.

At least you actually used your Alpha/ Beta Steam key. There are folks, myself included, that never redeemed nor requested a single Steam key and still can't switch them back to GOG codes as was my initial and only choice from the beginning.

That does sound interesting I always liked the banter in Baldurs gate and Dragon age 1 and stuff.

Damn shame. I'd considered backing D:OS, but my budget was a bit tight back then. I got really excited about it again discussing it with a friend yesterday, and since Larian always seemed like a cool studio I decided to just get it ASAP (I rarely buy games at release).

I came close to buying the Collector's Edition on Amazon because of nice physical goodies, only to find out via user FAQ and reviews that it needed Steam. The Steam requirement hadn't been brought to attention by Amazon in any way for the standard edition, you could only realize it was there if you took a really close look at the CE.

I was rather disappointed until I remembered that DRM-free D:OS had been one of the GOG flagship titles during the regional pricing crisis, so I decided to come here and buy an "expensive" new game for full price for the first time. What I found was this mess... :(

Now my enthusiasm about this game is pretty much down to zero. There isn't any way for me to get the game DRM-free until almost September, and given the fact that there's little to no actual explanation as to why that is I don't really feel inclined not to wait a little longer, unitl it's on sale.

This whole situation is an all around pretty shameful example of failed communication. And regardless of wether the blame lies with Larian or GOG or Amazon or whomever, the results are the same: customers are pissed off, trust as well as sales are lost. I refuse to believe either of those was inevitable.

I really really hope Larian doesn't go that low as to not provide patches for 2 month.

It should be. That is what people are arguing over. No reason to wait for Galaxy to release the game. Add Galaxy support when Galaxy is released. Meanwhile release the same GOG version that backers have access to, to the general GOG public.

So I am all ready for vacation. Got my beer and snacks. Got the kids playing upstairs. Time to download my newly released game..... WTF! Seriously, what the hell gog. I love you guys, but this is a clusterf**k of a bad idea. It really sucks because i was genuinely excited about this one. What idiot thought waiting for Galaxy was a good idea? I can buy on steam (and probably will) but I have always given my business to gog where possible first. It's really sad because some of the steps gog gas taken lately really makes me question their business model. The lack of proper communication from gog is worst of all though.

Like most of the people here I'm waiting for it and always prefer GOG. But this is a mess. We don't know where the game is and when we will get it and under which conditions. A comment what is going on would be the least.
