ErnisD: I actually never bought a bundle on steam so I have no idea how it's there. But I just hating being forced to pay for something I don't need. For example I never bought a single game that was cross-buy with ps3-ps vita. You pay once and get that game for both consoles. But I have just ps3. If that price includes that game for BOTH consoles, I wont buy it because I have to pay the same price even though I'll get it just for one console. Same here, if I pay money for all 3 games, even though I need just two, I want to be able to do whatever I want with that game I don't need. I'm ok with giving it for free to random guy, but I'm not ok with paying for it money and be forced to activate on my own account, even though I dont need it. Shouldn't I be able to do whatever I want with a game I payed money for? But maybe that's just me.
The difference between the Steam version and the GOG version is that GOG is DRM free. No internet connection required to play once you download it, it's yours to do with as you wish. If ever plan on playing the game/s when no internet is available then having the GOG versions is well worth it (Of course they are well worth it anyway since they are DRM free)

Umm, steam has offline mode. You don't need internet to play. Also steam has many things that gog doesnt(for example storing save files in cloud, that helped me numerous times). But I don't think it's a discussion about gog vs steam. I just said that I don't like being forced to pay money for something I don't need. I didn't do it on steam, I didnt do it on psn, I won't do it here.

I assure you that if you buy a bundle of Steam and already have one of the games in the bundle, you're going to pay again for it, though it won't appear a second time in your game library. On GOG, in contrast, if you own one or more of the games, they do count towards the total discount you get, but you won't have to pay for them again.

As for the part of your reply that I highlighted - yes you can, so long as you purchase that specific game as a gift code. If you purchase a bundle, then there are the following cases:
- As I said above, if you already have one or more games of a specific bundle on GOG, then you get the better discount for the rest of the games, you're not charged a second time for the ones you already have, and consequentially don't get additional copies.
- If you don't own any of the games on GOG, then you only get the better deal if you purchase the complete bundle.

There's no digital store I'm aware of that counts games you have bought on other stores.

In the case of the Deponia Trilogy bundle, you have three options:
(1) Either purchase only the two games you're interested in.
(2) Buy the complete bundle, and ask GOG Support to give you a gift code for the one you don't want to keep. In order to submit such a request, you must not attempt to download any of the game's content (installer or extras). Keep in mind though, that there's no guarantee that GOG Support will actually do this.
(3) Ask someone in the GOG's (General) Trading Thread that has the complete bundle to get the two games you want and trade them for games of equal value you'll purchase for them.

GabiMoro: If you already had Deponia 1 on GOG, then yes, the purchase would add 2 and 3 to your account and keep 1 as a gift, but it's not the case.
avatar
madth3: Actually, if you own a game here at GOG and purchase the bundle then the owned game gets removed from your purchase and you can complete the bundle at the 80% discount.
You are right. But I was talking about buying the bundle as a gift. In this case redeeming the gift code will only add to your account the games you don't have, while the gift code will retain the one you already have. After that the code can be used by somebbody else.

ErnisD: Hey, so I want to buy Deponia bundle, but I already have first one on steam. Is it possible to buy that bundle, keep 2nd and 3rd episodes for myself, and gift the first one to someone from gog community? Or is it either all 3 as a gift or all 3 for myself.
Yes, buy the bundle as a gift, redeem the games you need, then pass the serial to another user and he will redeem Deponia 1 :)

Ah. That I have not done.

Why you talking about steam? I don't give a fuck about steam, I don't care what platform does this shit, if it does it - i dont buy that game. Thats it. If you go to shop, one bottle of beer cost 2$, but if you buy 4 bottles, then one bottle cost 1.5$. But I dont want 4, 3 is enough. I get it that if I want a discount, I need to buy 4 bottles, I can buy it, and give one bottle that I don't need to my friend. Because I payed money for it, and I can use it however I want. Now I want to buy deponia trilogy, 2 for myself 1 for someone, but gog doesnt let me to do it. Do you think it's ok? I payed money for it, I should be able to do whatever I want with a product I payed money for.

So it was possible to do? Dammit. I already spent my money on other games :/

That would only work if he had Deponia on GOG, but he said he has it on Steam. You can't split a gift order like that unless you already own one of the games included in the gift order (since all 3 games are bound to 1 code).

Then I suggest you go buy that beer, and leave purchases of digital content to those you are actually able or willing to understand how these work. :/

Have a nice weekend. ;-P

I understand how it works. I don't like how it works.

It's alright. There's actually quite a few of us who don't like how it works (different reasons for some, though). And if it makes you feel better, these bundles sometimes become debundled in future sales, allowing you to get the same discount without having to buy the entire franchise. Unfortunately, that requires waiting.

Anyway, I hope this experience doesn't harm your view of GOG as a whole, and I apologize on behalf of the few who misunderstood what you were asking and instead focused on explaining the merits of GOG vs. Steam.
