VLC with AACS ddls worked fine the last time I tried (Akira Blu-ray, region 2). Even though it was a bit heavy on the CPU compared to PowerDVD (which is shittier and shittier every time I install a new version)....
I wrote to the blu-ray distributor in the Czech Republic and they were literally surprised someone would be trying to watch a blu-ray disc on a computer... :D they told me they are able to run it on their office computers though, and after asking what SW they use they answered CyberLink Bluray Disc Suite... worth 120 USD... and that, my friends, is that :P
DAUM PotPlayer, best player i ever used and it's free

it runs everything - you just install it and you are ready to go

i remember playing blu rays but dunno if it was off the disk or remuxed

wow, this looked so promising... but it doesn't work :(

I get an error:
Can not play the media file. This file has been found but may not one of audio and video files.

(not very clear message I must say :)

Yeah i think i tried it with a remuxed version, come to think of it. You can try ripping your blu ray disk to a mkv file (remuxing it) - you don't loose video or audio quality, you just strip down the drm and merge all the files off the disk in one. There are some guides on the web if you search "How to remux bluray", if you are willing you can give it a go. The file you create with this operation will work PotPlayer and probably other players.

Kunovski: what is your favourite software blu-ray player?
I know, at first it seems to be a very dumb question, but since I encountered many people that made the same mistake, I just have to ask:

You do have a BD drive in your PC, don't you?

I ask especially, because this guy already asked you that, but you ignored his question.

precipitate8: What kind of bluray drive do you have?

:D I would really kill myself if I bothered you all by putting a blu-ray disc into a dvd unit :D

no, I do have the required hardware, I actually am able to play another br disc in it (Sucker Punch)... I'll let you know this evening what brand it is, I don't remember...

Kunovski: I still get an error when I try to run the disc... :( guess I'll have to wait until I earn enough money for full version of PowerDVD (or a home cinema :D

stg83: Did you try using Passkey Lite? Just follow the last couple of instructions in my original post. Some people have had success using Passkey Lite concurrently with VLC player.
finally I've been able to try this, using vlc as a player while the passkey was running

the Sucker Punch blu-ray disc ran without problems, so I've tried the Gravity disc but received an error message...

I was pretty angry so I stopped trying for a bit, but then I realized I should at least look at the error message and read what does it say - so I inserted the disc, waited for everything to boot, started passkey, started vlc and hit play blu-ray, and it WORKED :D

I have no idea what that error was or if it will come again, but for now I'm extremely happy, so thanks!!! :)

That is awesome you welcome, I am really glad it worked out for you. I was banking on this solution to be applicable because many other people also reported that it was working. Enjoy watching the movies, Gravity in particular is an amazing film. :)
If you get desperate enough to pay for software, many people really adore Slysoft's products.

Sometimes I wonder if these software companies that charge with all of the demand they have right now (not saying there's anything wrong with charging though) really want to see DRM go away because then they would have to find something else to do or go out of business :) And hey, if people are spending money for software just to watch or rip movies they bought, they won't have as much money to buy more movies. Seems silly to me.

Personally, I think upconverted DVDs look fine and so I settle with that now. I don't have enough room to rip all of my discs if they were all Blu-ray anyway. Sorry I can't be of more help. it sucks because Gravity is one of the movies where a Blu-ray version would be worth it.

edit: nevermind, I type too slow.

don't worry, I was just really surprised by this situation - as if a person who has a computer to watch movies on would have to be either crazily rich to buy movies AND a software to play them on, or a pirate...

And the same thing to an even bigger extent works for anti-virus software companies, and every time I bring that up someone inevitably makes fun of such fears.

That's ok. You watch, before it's all said and done, a company that sells anti-virus software is going to be caught being responsible for a virus. It's not a question of if, only when. Till then, those folks can make all the fun they want to because in the end it will be them that looks like fools.

Yeah, it's dumb. And if a person decides that they're going to be legit and buy a home cinema with everything HDCP compliant, they're even going to be out A LOT MORE money and have less money that they could have used to buy more movies, because HDCP causes hardware to cost much more than it should. .

Haha, yeah I know. I've never heard of anyone leaking a seed of a copyrighted work to torrent on a pirate site so that they could sue people who download it either. Nope, never heard of that. (/sarcasm)
