seeing how SEGA has released some of its older console games (I.E. genesis and Dreamcast) on Steam is it possible to see that done on GOG.com with companies like SEGA or Atari?

Yes, they can, they asked us about that at one point.

Personally, I think it's a bit too soon as SNES has a good emulator, but most of the other ones requires special work to workaround the bugs that are introduced by not emulating individual transistors.

More likely they would be branching into things like the Amiga and C64 before they ever did consoles. But I could be wrong.
*shrugs* Anything's possible! They would definitely count as good old games. Technically, GOG's already doing emulation with DOSBOX, by the way. I think. 'Cause it emulates DOS? :B
It's theoretically possible, but very unlikely in practice. Negotiations would probably be much more difficult, copyright holders especially for the big console companies would be much less open to DRM-free approaches in the first place, and the marketability of these platforms (while existent) probably isn't high enough to justify the increased cost and effort.
well I'm not saying jump strait to Dreamcast or PS1, they would never do that (the companies). I'm saying start smaller like the Atari 2600 for games for like $0.50 or something. then work up towards the other stuff. but overall i would love to see up to the fifth generation consoles (PS1 and N64) on here. I actually have emulators for all the games i legally own, and good thing too because a storm went threw my house and ruined most of my electronics like my old consoles. with a digital distributor, that wouldn't be too much of a problem. that way I could have a copy of Einhander or Ghost in The Shell on a legal PS1 emulator (which those games are not on the PSN) since I payed for them but for obvious reason they won't work anymore.

The main problem is accuracy, BSNES does a fine job, but it requires a fairly recent computer to run. Atari 2600, NES and SMS could be done, but I don't know of any projects where they have emulated those accurately.

Personally though, I'd rather have arcade games if at all possible as those are typically hard to find legally. I can dump my own carts, but trying to get an arcade game is quite a bit more challenging.

Fuck if you own the disks then fuk how they're played....emulator or no. EULAs are as(mostly) upholdable as laws written on toilet paper by the town drunk. Just play em on emulators using your paid for disks and don't worry about it.

I'm sure it works fine, unless you're trying to play an obscure game that depends upon a hardware bug to function properly. Some games of that era will not work at all without either the bugs or a proper workaround.

But, then again, I'm a sucker for authenticity, even when I do play a game on an emulator, I use a real controller for the appropriate system. I have them for Genesis, SNES, NES and Atari 2600.

Have you got one of Pippin's? :)

You mean one of these?http://www.pcmag.com/slideshow/story/286646/tech-that-disappeared-too-soon/8

Nope, first time I've ever heard of it.

Yes, Apple do they best to wipe out their failures from collective memory.

If we're talking about a hypothetical situation where GOG would be selling these games, they'd only sell ones which do run correctly despite the inaccurate emulation. Just as they test and configure the games they sell now, one assumes they would test the games in the emulator.
