It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).

I feel bad. I should have said something earlier. I worked for the company that bought Gamespy (I don't know why they did since they were in a way different market than we). I could guess after buying that, the game portal would only be kept up so long.
Bye Gamespy and never liked your servers anyway. Every computer I used said you were malware and I think they were right

cmdr_flashheart: Uh, yeah, people are painting this like a DRM issue, but don't DRM-free games also need some kind of DRM to play MP? I don't play MP games at all, really, so I might be wrong.

Is there a way to play MP games w/o third party services?
The GameSpy closure will affect DRM-free games using its services. This is separate from DRM. Many older games didn't use accounts for online access, instead simply checking that the CD key was valid and not being used simultaneously by another player.

There are various ways of working around GameSpy's absence. The master server can be changed in the game's files with a mod, or manually redirected to some other master server (e.g. ). It's also possible to host LAN modes online with [url=https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/]Hamachi or similar.

It should be possible to get almost all games working online in some form after GameSpy; it won't be quite as good as the original implementation since players have to all be using the same master server in order to see each other.

First GFWL, then Gamespy & now EA.
Pretty soon we won`t require internet at all. Well, except during insomnia sales whilst awaiting Jack Keane.

Ahem, it's first GFWL, then Gamespy & now Gamespy.
Not all of those games used Gamespy though did they?

They were going to patch some that did, now they`re not bothering at all.

Since I've no idea, which ones didn't?
Ooh I haven`t an igloo, but seen other threads saying not all were.
As for the list I only have the Crysis games, so relying on what others`ve said.
This is why game should have LAN modes or direct connect to other IPs. Even if the central match making service goes down you can still play with friends, even if you have to use a VPN to do so. It still beats not having any online anymore.

That's a pity - I had been considering acquiring BF 2142, and still play BF2 quite a bit.
Few of the youtubers I watch that play BF3.5, oops, I mean BF4 still regularly play the earlier ones too.
Guess they`re up the creek too.

Wishbone: I wonder if Unreal Tournament 3 will stop working completely soon.
At least UT3 can live on through bots and LAN play.

Can it though? Didn't you have to log into your GameSpy account to even start the game?
