That bothered me too at first but the game isn't that hard and the humour was enough to drive me through it.

I kinda lost interest already in the beginning parts, when trying to save the dropping brainies. I just didn't like that part at all. But I must retry, just for the humor in the game.

That's one of the worst, most off-putting and most atypical levels of the game, I think, and curiously it's the second level already. So many people seem to get stuck there (including myself and a friend of mine). :D

If you manage to complete it, things will get a lot better afterwards.

Probably... erm... No One Lives Forever 2, I guess? Couldn't get it to work on my old computer, and have been busy with other games on my current one. Plus, since it's an original CD, I expect getting it to play nicely with Windows 7 will be a little bit of a hassle.

Spend 2-3 hours on Escape Goat, maybe that would be even enough to complete it and you could already uncheck one game of that long list. And you probably won't regret it either, unless these kinds of games and graphics don't appeal to you at all. I thought it was great.

Well after the Interplay sale recently (not to mention the THQ humble bundle, good lord)... a lot of "good games".

Games I get on sale I have a bad habit of never getting around to playing, usually getting caught up in a million and a half other things. Playing Company of Heroes right now, I'm missing out on Baldur's Gate II, Planetscape, Bioshock (yep, owned it for over half a year now and haven't played it), Just Cause 2, NWN 2: Platinum, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, The Witcher: Enchanced Edition (original), X-COM: UFO Defense (original). That's just on Steam 0_0 (except the first two, which are GOG)

Here on GOG, I'm especially excited by Zeus/Poseidon and Fallout: Tactics, as well as Fallout 2. I've been really enjoying the new XCOM recently and I've heard Tactics might have some similar elements (even though it's more of a typical RPG than XCOM). Zeus/Poseidon sounds like Age of Mythology mixed with Civilization IV...if that's true than I'm almost seizing with excitement.

If it's that short, and not too hard, I'll give it a try.

Problem is, whenever I think of playing a puzzle game, I get reminded of all the other puzzle games I've sunk time into but am currently stuck on. Such as Toki Tori.

Yep, sounds about right lol. I would recommend that you play Deus Ex before any of the others, although that might just be because I've played that one the most of them all :-P

Deus Ex still feels fairly modern, despite it's dated graphics. Besides the Witcher, the others are going to feel more dated, especially in terms of the UI, which can be a frustrating roadblock when you're learning a new game. Deux Ex is still easy to pick up (I think) and the storyline is very interesting. Also, it happens to be the most innovative, in terms of your ability to control the story, game of the last decade. It makes today's FPSs look like kiddy toys: it simply has a depth that no game today can touch (even it's very solid sequel, Human Revolution, which I would also recommend if/when you have the cash)

I probably do need to find a system to play some of these old games: alphabetical order? release date? Otherwise, I'll just keep putting it off, playing something else!
I do seriously wonder if the way game design works today has somewhat "brainwashed" to be more ADD about games. I definitely feel like long text scrolls and having to read manuals is far more irritating than I remember it being 10-15 years ago, because games don't really require that anymore, since the story happens in the game events themselves most of the time.
Play it on the lowest settings: hell 800x600 if you have to (or whatever the lowest res is). Don't let your graphics rule when you play that game in particular, it's far too fantastic of an RPG to put it on the backburner. Example: I like the combat in that game quite a bit more than Skyrim, and the talent tree system is really fun to play around with. Also, the characters are far more realized than Skyrim can ever claim to be able to do.

I'm long, long overdue some post-apocalyptic open world adventuring, considering I own like 6 Fallout and Stalker games which I haven't yet played.

Also, the Total War series.

Dude, i'm on a 7600GT, way below the minimum requirements, the game doesn't display the floor texture properly [i mean, i can see the floor, way below where it's supposed to be], not to mention the 10FPS top i get. It's beyond unplayable at the moment, it has to wait. :)
When it comes to combat, i was never a fan of how Witcher did it, but then again, i think modern RPGs are far too combat oriented anyways. I'm more of a BAK guy myself, when every combat was a potential disaster, You wanted to avoid it as much as possible, at least in the beginning. I loved that.
Anyhow, I'm pretty much used to playing games on LOW@800x600, so that's not an issue really. As long as it's at least 20-25fps, i can play it, i did so with DXHR, more recently. I played Quake on the smallest window size, on a 386, finished it, enjoyed it, so yeah, graphical quality is not a problem at all.:>

It definitely seems like one of those lesser known gems. I almost always see it praised by people who have much knowledge about PC gaming from the 80's onward and I tend to agree with much of their other likes. It's one of those games that newbies don't usually know about though, unlike games like the Infinity Engine games or Deus Ex.

One of these days I'll get around to it. Maybe when I have plenty of time to kill when the world is ending and I'm just waiting out the zombies 100 feet up in a tree with my portable solar panels and a laptop.
