Momo1991: So I was sent a link to buy Metro:Last Light from Best Buy for one penny. Yup, one cent. I didn't really want the game but I figured hey nice GOG giveaway or gift for my son. So of course I went to the link to see if it could be true and sure enough, Best Buy allowed me to process an order on my credit card for one cent. I even received a confirmation of my order via email with a valid order number.

schmea: Did you buy the extended warranty? It's only $25 more, and they STRONGLY recommend it for your purchase.
Are you taking lessons from triock? ;-p

I wasn't quite sure who Triock was, so I turned to my old pal Google Image search to solve the mystery:

Ahhhh... it all makes sense now. He DOES look wise!

Oh man, this reminds me of some animated electronic toy my son had! "Light Bright! Light Bright!"

Spinorial: And that'll do them in. Already they've had to close down a number of stores up here, that should continue as Amazon et al grab bigger chunks of their market.
Hopefully that will make BB wake up and realize refusing to give your customers what they purchased is going to hurt their future and become a more responsible and honest business...

I don't think it's fair to rip into Best Buy for this. It's clear someone made a huge, huge error. This isn't case of "bait and switch" or refusing to honor a legitimate deal, someone made a mistake in putting in the price, or else their system glitched. The company's going through a lot of financial difficulty, and it's understandable they don't want to take about a $50 loss on selling each of these games, since they're struggling to stay afloat. Even if they weren't, again, this isn't $5 or $10 or $20 price difference, this is borderline giving the game away for free, and businesses are in business to make a profit, not to practically give away brand new stock for free.

They can afford to make good on their promises. I doubt this mistake would cost them millions of dollars. Not giving customers what they purchased is wrong. There is no good excuse for that. Businesses don't have a license to steal.

It's not stealing... it's a pricing mistake. Some people got lucky and took advantage of a blantat mistake. They're not entitled to get a product that was clearly listed FAR below retail in error.

A pricing mistake, nothing more nothing less. If on the next promo, GOG puts the entire catalogue up for $10, would the same people will be up in arms if GOG pulled it back and didn't stand by an obvious *mistake*? All the people screaming on facebook, steam, now here and wherever else, just another example of gamerz thinking they're owed some entitlement for wanting a game. Just look at the frenzy it turned into as soon as it people became aware of it. The only reason that happened is cuz gamers knew it was a mistake and wanted in on it before BB fixed it.

They may have considered honouring it, buy seeing as some greedy little toerags ordered multiple copies (One person I've seen was bragging about having ordered 50 and had received 10 or so), I don't blame them in the slightest for not doing so.

I saw on another forum that someone had ordered over 100 copies.

No and buying a game that was offered for 1 cent is not stealing. One could say, it is a douche bag thing to do, taking advantage of such a mistake but it is not stealing. A DEAL IS A DEAL. The victims in this thread, are no angels but Best Buy SHOULD give them what they fucking paid for. The victims here are the lesser of two evils compared to a store that doesn't give people what they purchased. It's not about entitlement, stop being stupid. People don't like being deceived. People don't like the idea that a store thinks it has the right to not give customers what they paid for. I doubt people are bitching because they feel entitled to 1 cent games. Remind me, never to do business with you...

This is one problem that plagues the world today. Too many people like you, who don't even know what personal responsibility is. Too many people running away, backing out or changing the rules when things are not in their favor due to their own mistakes after they agreed to something. And then other people get screwed. It doesn't matter if someone ordered 1000000 copies. A deal is a deal.

Right... So someone makes a mistake, you're entitled to profit from it? Say you walked down the street and a little old lady with serious dementia signed over the deeds to her house to you, would you keep it? After all, a deals a deal...
