saldite: Not saying the games aren't worth $10, but that made the Fallouts almost essential budget games.

F4LL0UT: The really awful thing is that I got both games for approximately 5 bucks each from magazines in the year 2000. Can't believe that I have to pay twice as much for digital copies more than ten years later. :P
avatar
F4LL0UT: Makes me wonder how devs and publishers determine the prices for their products - I can't see any logic there. Even the "bigger dick = bigger price" formula doesn't work anymore.

spindown: It seems that a game's age is the most important factor, while quality doesn't seem to matter much. This leads to some pretty bizarre pricing decisions such as

- Master of Orion 1+2: $5.99
- Master of Orion 3: $9.99
Yeah. You'd think that with old games those who do price control would realize that they originally poorly received and sold poorly for a reason, and would lower games like the bottom four "User Rating" titles (Gothic 3: FGEE - Tomb Raider: AoD) down to at least 5.99. (not to mention Sensible Soccer and Journey to the Center of the Earth)

But whatevs...
The vast majority of them seriously look at some of the games that are 5.99
King of Dragon Pass, Dungeon Keeper, Dungeon Keeper 2, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, Sid Meier's Pirates, Syndicate, Theme Hospital, Alone in the Dark 1+2+3, Gabriel Knight Sins of the Father, the entire Ultima series plus the underworld spin offs, Lands of Lore, Betrayal at Krondor, Anachronox, NOX, The Populous series, Outcast, Darklands, Star Control 1+2, Wing Commander series, Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, Bioforge, ect.

Seriously and that's off the top of my head,there are just too many great titles at that price point to say "hey out of all these games this one right here is the very best" well for me anyway. Maybe I'm just indecisive

Well maybe they figure that the games were so hated that there better off selling them at higher price points to make some money off them since less people will buy them or will buy them at a reduced sale price.

Yeah, you're probably right about that. I suspect they're still making some money off of "curiosity" purchases ("Why was Moo3 so hated? Is it really that bad?") I think, so they went for the higher price bracket. Personally, though, I'd be more inclined to get Tomb Raider: AoD at 6 dollars than at 10 (I could have had it at 5 during the sale, of course).
i guessing the people who own the games control the price more then gog does

I don't have a single favorite at that price so I'll list a few:
Age of Wonders
Blood
Magic Carpet
Raptor: Call of the Shadows
Rayman Forever
Syndicate

There would've been a few Interplay titles there if the prices didn't go up.
Based on the amount of time I've spent playing them over the years, I'd have to go with one of these three:

Total Annihilation
I-War 2
ArmA: Cold War Assault
Fahrenheit.
some that I can think of:

Nox
Soul Reaver games
Outcast
Rollercoaster Tycoon
Empire Earth

If I am objective and take into account the appeal to majority, then I would say that the most valuable purchase in terms of replay value is Master of Orion I & II pack and that the best one-time experience for the 5´99 USD price tag is Arx Fatalis.

Games worth the 5´99 USD price tag in alphabetical order (this list is purely subjective, based on personal preferences):

Arx Fatalis;
Jagged Alliance;
Little Big Adventure;
Master of Orion I & II;
Moto Racer;
Ultima Underworld I & II.

Of course out of what I had actually played. Which is far from everything.
Gabriel Knight - Sins of the Fathers is the best game on GOG. It's also 5.99.
Arcanum

Lolz. Same here. ah good ol' CDACTION. The only good thing you do... (I miss SGK :( )

I didn't know about the price rise.... shame I didn't buy F2 and FT here on gog when they were cheap. (i already own F1 for free and others in physical copy... like three times. )

In my personal opinion, I think King of Dragon Pass is one of the best games you can get for 6 bucks. I played the game quite extensively and I don't recall ever playing the same game twice as it always threw something different at me every time. Also, those thanes tend to be a whiny bunch unless you send them out on raids :D
Got quite a few titles now, heard they can be played on the XBOX 360... i have neither the xbox 360 or an xbox but thought people with them might liek to know... some good titles available
