Well, she is a felon ;-P! Most western countries are very strict when it comes to visa. Europe is a freaking fortress. I never noticed it really, as an EU passport is basically an AAA card. But I did some auxiliary work for the german embassy in a non-EU country. 95% of the visa applications were turned down.

You obviously don't know that. The point is that most of our current law system is directly derived from roman law. I'm not talking about any "ideals" but simple transactions like buying your bagel each morning.

There is hardly any legal action that isn't somewhat derived from roman law. While roman law itself is no longer used for law interpretation (well, at least here) it remains highly significant.

i don't know for sure, but i belive that law students study Roman law still today as part of their curriculum. not that i would have attended such a congregation of shysters...

In Germany it isn't mandatory per se. But you need somehing called a "basics class"/ "Grundlagenschein" (you are from german speaking Switzerland I presume?). This can be done in several topics. Most of them are about law history. During my time, there were six courses for that "basic class" available. Two of them were about Roman Law. So, you don't have to, but it is in option that helps you to advance. Other universities often have "basic law history classes" that are mandatory and also cover roman law.

And stuff like "culpa in contrahendo" is usual law lingo here.
